Tempur Rhapsody opinions requested.

Post by bryansong » Mon Nov 18, 2013 3:06 pm

Making this sleep related,

I just purchased a Tempur Rhapsody and should take delivery November 29.
I was looking for a firm bed because of a lower back problem I think is related to my too soft bed. My wife and I went to Sears and I laid on several beds.
The Rhapsody seed to be the firmest as well as the MOST expensive.

Since I have purchased it I've read in reviews where the Rhapsody is sort of in the middle of firmness. I think I need a firm mattress to prevent saging.
Are there firmer models I should have considered?

Sears did have a good deal on them comparing their pricing with Nebraska Furniture Mart.

I also read there was an issue with them retaining head making you hot.

Do any of you have an opinion of this bed?

I happen to be in sales at a furniture store and sell
Tempurpedic Matt. You have picked out a very
nice Matt. You will not find body impressions on
this Matt. You do not want any firmer of a Matt
than this. If you sleep hot you will sleep hot
regardless what Matt you buy. They have redesign
there Matt so they don't sleep hot. The much older
models had this problem but they have fixed it.
You will love it and if you don't they do have
a return policy. Good luck

We invested in the Tempurpedic Rhapsody. We have no regrets. My husband likes an extra firm mattress, and he loves the Rhapsody. I do overheat, but I always overheat, and I have solved the problem by putting a thick mattress pad over the mattress. It gives a little space between me and the mattress. They have the 90 day return policy, so you are pretty safe. When it arrives, it will be a bit stinky. Our installer told us to walk on it to squeeze the air out of the foam, then leave it in a well ventilated room. We repeated this a few times, and the smell was gone pretty quickly.

Did you get the Adjustable base with it. If you
did you are going to be in heaven. And don't
forget about a good pillow also ....

I am so happy you both replied, that is some great information. When you spend that kind of money it's good
to get some positive feedback.

I didn't get any pillows because I am a stomach sleeper and thought their weird shape would be a problem.
I do have a problem finding a pillow that will work for me. Once I get some better support from my new mattress
I'll have a better idea on my pillow needs.

No adjustable base either, that was way too much more money for now, maybe some day.

Also, thanks for the information on getting the odor out of the bed, I am very sensitive to scents so I've been worried
that might be a deal breaker. I'll walk on the bed and leave the window open.

Thank you,

Bryan

I sleep on a Tempur-pedic adjustable bed, and as stated... I'm in heaven. Pre-cpap therapy, my snoring ran my wife out of the bedroom. I bought a Tempur-pedic before she moved back in. I thought she would not adjust to the bed. It took about 3 or 4 nights to get accustom to the firmness. Nowadays, she won't sleep on any other mattress. The adjustable is costly, but great. Ours was a close-out so we got it cheap.

Best of luck...

Are both the head & feet ends adjustable?

Why did you need an adjustable bed?
And has it met that need?

I ask because I currently sleep most of the time in a recliner due to lumbar pain due to stenosis & a couple of bad discs.

I am considering looking into an adjustable bed with a good mattress.

I now already have a good really firm king sized mattress, but think the adjustable feature is really what I need.

Are both the head & feet ends adjustable? Yes, it is just like a hospital bed. You can raise the head-part of the bed, the foot-end or both. Mine has a remote with memory button so you preset the remote to remember a good position. It has 4 memory buttons, so the remote can remember 4 different positions. It's great for watchin' TV in bed.

Why did you need an adjustable bed?
And has it met that need? I've had several knee and back operations... and it would have been great to have this bed. My luck.... I get the bed when I start to feel better. I had bought a full size Tempur-pedic right after starting cpap therapy in 2010, and fell in love with it. The wife moved back into the bedroom because the cpap therapy stopped me from snoring, and the bed was too small. I gave my full size tempur-pedic to my teenage son (who loves it) and me and the wifey bought a king size... really two extra large full size beds. Each bed operates independently in the adjustable arena. There's a place in Houston called "Gallery Furniture" and the man that owns the store is a neat guy. He had a close out on the tempur-pedic model and he was selling the $6000 kingsize for $2000... so we couldn't pass it up. I wish I had this bed when I was recovering from my back and knee surgeries. With the mattress moving up and down, I have to make sure my Hose Buddy is secure, and the hose is routed out of the way.

I ask because I currently sleep most of the time in a recliner due to lumbar pain due to stenosis & a couple of bad discs.

I am considering looking into an adjustable bed with a good mattress.

I now already have a good really firm king sized mattress, but think the adjustable feature is really what I need.[/quote] If you like the tempur-pedic
bed and have health issues, this is your bed... providing you can afford it.

Sheriff,

I keep reading in reviews about the heat, or getting hot, it looks like you are very happy with your bed, any heat issues?

No... I know some folks who "retain heat" easily, that have told me they could not tolerate the bed. One guy said he had a bed up in his room and he had only slept on it a few nights, but gave up on it. He said the bed will stay with the house when he sells it. I begged him to sell me the bed, but he was not interested. Some of the newer tempur-pedic models have air circulation... but dang... it sure is getting complicated.

Bryan,

Before you buy any mattress you need to go to the site I have posted here and read it thourghly!! I don't want to be negative, but I had a horrible experience with Tempurpedic. IMHP Tempur is way overpriced and over hyped. If after reading everything on this site, you still feel like buying one, then do so....some people like them.

Hope this helps!

Janice

I have Questions for those of you who have used "adjustable" beds for some time.

Since the mattress has to "bend" when being adjusted, does the mattress have "joints" where these bends occur?

How can a pretty "firm" and "thick" (height) mattress "bend" & still be able to be "firm"?

The only adjustable beds I have experience with are those in the hospitals when I have visited people there. Those mattresses are not very thick nor firm.

Stu....I have had my adjustable bed since 1972. I have always used a latex mattress on it..... 8 to 9 inches in depth. I was told to only use that kind of mattress on a adjustable bed. For sure always use a flipable mattress!! (Thats the secret to keeping it in good shape). I happen to hate memory foam. I have a very bad back and cannot tolerate it. A good Dunlap or Talalay latex mattress is your best mattress in my opinion.

If you want to learn mattresses go to the Mattress Underground as given above to Bryan.

Hope this helps!

Janice

The mattress industry changes mattress styles
every 12 months. I have been selling them for
30 yrs now. Its amazing how they can make a
simple mattress better but they do. All top of
the line Mattresss such as Sealy,Serta,Simmons
and many more brands can all be put on adjustable
bases. In fact they have there own bases now.
They have pulled out the side wire and replaced
it with heavy foam on the sides. Which can bend
with no problem. Tempurpedic has a new mattress
called ' Tempur-Rhapsody Breeze Mattress'
It has a cooling material for those who sleep
hot. If you go to Tempurpedic.com you will see
all the styles. I hope this helps....
