Do you feel like you are being suffocated? Most doctors and equipment providers have the mistaken idea that lower pressure is easier to get used to. So, they usually set up the ramp feature to allow the pressure to start low and slowly go up to the therapy level pressure. This makes it hard to breathe and causes people to quit.

So, is your ramp feature on? How long does it last? What does it start at (often, only 4 or 5). What is your prescription pressure setting? Odds are that you will feel better if your machine starts at a pressure of at least 6.

What machine and mask do you have?

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Hello and welcome to the club you'd rather not have joined.

My first thoughts are to wonder if you are using a ramp feature, where the machine starts at a low pressure then ramps up. If you are having trouble as soon as you put it on, maybe the pressure is too low for you to breathe comfortably. Is it that you feel you can't get enough air or does it feel like too much air? Since you have an auto machine listed, maybe it's set in an auto range of pressures that starts too low. Can you give us your settings? It might be helpful in giving you meaningful input. It's likely some tweaks here and there will get you to the point you won't feel like you're suffocating. Probably too late to get much help tonight, but hopefully tomorrow night will be better.

Definitely turn off your ramp. You should be able to go straight to 6. That should be more comfortable. You may need to raise it later, but give it a try without the ramp.

Yea this is one club I think we all don't want to belong too. I haven't really messed with it since I got it and my ins haves a third party watching what I do on my cpap but I am going to have to turn if the ramp off and see if that fixes the problem in the A.M when I get home since I am at work right now.

Generally your insurance only cares about how many hours you're using the machine. I don't think it would be a problem if you alter the ramp setting.

Use of the ramp feature is optional and is a comfort feature so you turning it off won't be changing your prescribed treatment. In fact, turning it off will get you to your prescribed pressure quicker. Shouldn't be a problem with your provider at all. Let us know if doing this helps.

Hope not because I hate how I feel. The other day I woke up with my mask on my forehead

Look on the bottom of the blower unit for a 3 digit model number and tell us that number. Remove water tank first.

Water at the mask level..how much? A little or a lot? Any water in the hose?
It could be moisture in your own exhaled breath condensing in the mask ....happens to the best of us if we like a cold bedroom.

There are some options available to limit condensation but it helps if we know for sure which model you are using so we can tell you the options.
Also helps to know what humidifier setting you are using in whatever model number machine you are using.
So at what setting?

And of course if the machine (+ humidifier) is resting at a higher level than you are, place it on something lower - water runs downhill.

I have a 6 prescription too, and so far (5 months) I have not needed the humidifier. Unless it is really dry where you are, you might want to try the therapy without it.
