Daylight Savings Time Ends
Re: Daylight Savings Time Ends
I loved the cartoon from the early 70s. It showed a 5 o'clock shadowed Nixon hunched over a sewing table, cutting one hour of daylight off of a blanket and sewing it on the other end!

Re: Daylight Savings Time Ends
I'm lazy. I figure that the total hours matter more. If I want to correct for the 1 hour, I will have to look at the data and make a note. It would be a hassle when one is on a trip.joshuamommie wrote:when i tried to change the time on my machine last night it gave me an error, ugh, gonna try again tonight....

Not changing the machine.
I changed everything else--no, I missed a couple.
Oh, poop!
(hubby changed the kitchen clocks, I changed the car.)

Re: Daylight Savings Time Ends
Ugh you said it. It will take my one year old a good week to get back on track. My 4 year old's (with OSA) clock is extra screwed up and will be for awhile. The extra hour is just one more hour of sleep deprivation to add to my own debt.
Re: Daylight Savings Time Ends
This cartoon was triggered by Nixon putting the country on DST in the middle of winter (as in late January) during the middle of the first oil embargo. The idea was that shifting the extra hour of daylight to the early evening would save energy (exactly how I'm not sure), but Nixon caught huge amounts of heat because of pictures of little kids standing out in the pitch black cold waiting for school buses to come pick them up 45 minutes before dawn ... We went back to standard time after about 3 or 4 weeks of DST in the dead of winter. Only to go back to DST in April of that year as was normal at the time.msla wrote:I loved the cartoon from the early 70s. Re: Daylight Savings Time Ends
I'm in the minority here. I love DST in the summer time, but have no desire to be on DST year round. Hence I regard the time changes as a necessary "evil" with a huge positive benefit: In the summer I adore having the extra hour of daylight in the evening. But then I'm also a dedicated night owl and dawn at 4:00 AM or whatever does me no good at all. Pushing sunset back from 8:00 pm to 9:00pm, on the other hand is glorious. But it does get dark in the AM this far north by mid fall when you're on DST. Hence the fall time change always helps me in the morning (I crave that morning light in Buffalo at this time of year---it's DARK at 7:00 am in late October on DST), but the spring one is difficult for a week or two.

Re: Daylight Savings Time Ends
My 1st choice would be to have Daylight Savings Time be the permanent time year round.
But, I know that is not "natural".
So, my 2nd choice is to keep the "natural" time year round.
I'll find another way to remind me to change the batteries in my various smoke alarms.
I have never switched either of my 2 ResMed S9 AutoSets to DST.
But, I did check both & they were both off.
Just a few minutes off, but off none the less.
Have any of you noticed S9s losing or gaining time?

Don't know about S9's, but my System One BiPAP from from April 2011 is now 21 minutes too fast GMT. And there's no way to reset it. I'd love to have a clock I could set on the System One ...StuUnderPressure wrote: Have any of you noticed S9s losing or gaining time?

Yes, I too would rather have a clock I can set.robysue wrote:Don't know about S9's, but my System One BiPAP from from April 2011 is now 21 minutes too fast GMT. And there's no way to reset it. I did reset both of them on Sunday to the correct time.
1 will be 2 years old in January and the 2nd was only 8 months old at the end of October.
I had set both when I acquired them & then never looked at the time setting again - so I have no idea how long it took for either of them to gain time.
Now, I will check them every month or so (at least until I tire of doing so).

Re: Daylight Savings Time Ends
If the time changes at 2am, does that mean we get up at 2 and change the clocks back to 1am, or do we wake up at 3 and change it back to 2?
No one has ever been able to give me a definitive answer.
