I slept without my machine the other night and was quite sick the next day. I tried to go on my usual walk and had to go back home after only a few blocks because I was so dizzy that I was afraid I might fall. I took a nap and ended up sleeping most of the afternoon. I have a fit bit that monitors my sleep and it showed woke up constantly. I wasn't aware of waking up. I've slept without my machine before recently and didn't experience that problem. That's why I decided to do it the other night. I decided my mask was keeping me awake and I'd sleep better without it. I'm not doing that again.
The long and the short of it is that after that experience, I decided I really should have a back up machine because I don't want to go through that if my machine breaks down and I have to wait for a new one. I was searching through the threads and found one in which someone asked for recommendations to replace a very basic machine. I'd probably like some of the bells and whistles some of the new models have. I'd be interested in knowing what machines some of you use and what you like about them.
Thank you.
Shopping for New Machine
Re: Shopping for New Machine
Hi - My machine's fairly small compared to others and is marketed as a 'travel' machine, but in fact does almost everything the others do and is quite reliable (but a lot less expensive). I didn't get the module/software pkge because my results are usually very consistent, and the machine has a special feature that allows you to see a code (a few #'s) on the screen in the a.m., enter them into a window on either Cpap.com or DeVilbiss (mfr) website and it gives you AHI, leaks, pressures, etc. if not all the other tech stuff other machines do. So I'm very happy with it! And the humidifier's built-in (underneath).

Resmed S9 Auto is my machine of choice! It's reliable, very quiet and looks like a chubby Bose system haha! It's a great machine - you can't go wrong! I can read my daily stats every morning on the LCD screen. That's a great feature. Also has an SD card and I use Sleepyhead software to read the card and get my monthly stats.
Never had a problem with it and it's worked like a dream from day one. Hope this helps!

I have both the Autoset and the Intellipap.
I prefer the Autoset; but could live with the Intellipap if I had to.
The intellipap will run off the car's 12 volt outlet with a cord that costs under $30;
--just in case you live where electricity could be unreliable.
