Need Advice Please!

Post by Optimistic28 » Sat Oct 26, 2013 7:40 pm

Hello, I am a 28 year old male. Long time lurker, first time poster. I have moderate apnea, but severe when I sleep on my back. As such I sleep on my side.
Anyway, I had a sleep study, confirmed for moderate apnea on my sides, severe when supine. Respironics APAP, 560, latest model, nasal mask. Been using this for 6 weeks. Makes me even MORE tired!!! I did CPAP to have more energy but instead I am MORE exhausted. Please tell me what kinda solution makes things WORSE not better? I fully realize takes time, its not instantaneous, but how can it make things worse? Anyway I continue to use it, my AHI ranges from 1.0 to 3.5..... well below 5 AHI. I use it for 8 hours a night. For 6 weeks I've worn this, checking my readings on Sleepyhead... low AHI under 5, low leak rate, exhausted.... seriously considering dental device... mandibular advancement device and if it doesnt work, mandibular advancement surgery, will not do UPPP it does not work

I don't have answers yet only questions.
What was your untreated AHI in your sleep study?
Are you overweight? if yes how much.
What is your diet like, health food nut or junk food junkie?
Have you had a physical to rule out other problems.
Have you had blood work, including Vit B12 and 25 Hydroxy vit D, recently?

The answers may point in the direction of help.

Greetings!

Some people do poorly with pressures that change throughout the night. You might want to see what your 90 to 95% pressure is. If you can tolerate that, you might want to see if you do better with just that pressure - not a range of pressures.

Second, sometimes it has nothing to do with breathing that causes problems with your sleep. Did you get a copy of your sleep study? You have the right to request it. It might indicate there are other issues, such as Periodic Limb Movement Disorder. Many doctors try to (rightfully) tackle one problem at a time. Your doctor might assume that everything is fine.

Third, (but related to the second), talk with your doctor. There might be more that your doctor can do.

Here's hoping you find an approach that helps.

From another post by OP

This is the OP. I'm surprised at how many people actually believed me. The law I cited says nothing about females. I'm going to have to leave and find another forum because it's just way too easy to troll here. You guys even believed the Homeless Guy thread (which was not me, I had nothing to do with that, but I did read with amusement how you guys believe someone who walks barefoot in sub-freezing snow and ice and has not lost their legs due to frostbite). I also found it funny how none of you seem to know you cannot operate a CPAP in freezing cold. There is no way that homeless troll could use a CPAP in the winter outdoors.

Take care everyone I'm done here! Have a wonderful day "

He likes to play games so that makes me suspect original comments here..and why I removed my prior comments with my offer to help. I don't like wasting my time with game players myself.
I don't know if the Homeless Guy mentioned is the real deal or not but to blast people for actually caring enough to even want to help someone they don't know..is just down right nasty and mean.

Since he says he won't be back...not much use in expecting replies here to the questions asked...if they were even real issues.
Up to you other forum members if you want to continue with offers to help someone with this attitude. I won't be bothering though.
I have enough to do already without this sort of crap.

I hate that the good people on this site get abused. I can't begin to tell you all how much good has come from this website.
I can't thank every one here enough I would never have been able to navigate this condition if not for here.

I agree... would have given up long ago... which I actually did, but getting back on my machine was a result of all the good info I got when I was lurking here and my doctor giving me a full blown lecture!
