Pain Syndromes
Pain Syndromes
Wondering how many here suffer from any of the various pain syndromes. How has using xpap affected that? What else has had an impact for you? Do you think you developed apnea or the syndrome first in your life?

Re: Pain Syndromes
I have arthritis, osteoporosis, degenerative disk disease, and spinal cysts. I had one injection that didn't seem to help before I had DVT. Now with the blood thinner I am taking I can't continue the epidural injections. I did have a shot for the arthritis that didn't seem to help at all. I have had back pain for years but it just got severe in the last couple of years. I don't see any connection with my back problems and sleep apnea. My apnea is well under control with my ASV machine that I absolutely love.

Re: Pain Syndromes
Suffer from pain bead to toe. Have over 20 broken bones on record plus broken neck and back in two locations. Add in tendon damage, muscle tears, head injury plus intsrnal stuff been in pain management 7 years. Xpap therapy past 3 years. Have not noticed.any pain reduction from xpap. If anything my lumbar spine pain bas increased as only able to sleep on back and cant change position. I have started a new med flrmulated for ostelpodosis called Forteo. Wife on it too for osteoporosis. We both have significant relief from the Forteo but its not covered by insurance but costs $2,000 per 28 day supply. 4k per month 4 meds hurts deep. But not as bad as the back pain without it.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth

I also have Osteoarthritis, and Spinal Stenosis*. But my pain (level of about 7 out of 10) comes from my Diabetic Foot which became Neuropathic. This is manifested by destruction of nerves in my foot below the ankle. I take Aleve which helps quite a bit. The CPAP does nothing about this pain but just aggravate it somewhat b/c I am sort of leashed to the machine.

Re: Pain Syndromes
For years, I have had immediate relief from muscular and joint pain with the application of heat.
(Thermocare or a ziplock containing wet paper towels--microwaved.)
Since using cpap, the need for this has dwindled down to nearly nothing.

Re: Pain Syndromes
I sleep quite well without much pain. I have to sleep on my back to escape a lot of pain but no problem with the cpap.
I found a couple of topical rollon cold therapies here in Canada that are great! It is temporary relief but almost instant for my knees and back. One is "Biofreeze" and the other is "Stopain Cold". Both seems to work effectively for me.
I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Osteoporosis and scoliosis.
Applying it in the morning and just before bed time works well for me. I do also take some heavy duty pain meds and have for years. I couldn't get along without these meds but the topical stuff it quick relief that helps me keep active during the day and get to sleep at night.

Re: Pain Syndromes
I had bilateral frozen shoulders about 10 years before starting CPAP, and was amazed to get great relief from CPAP. It was not something I expected, and that, if nothing else, is a motivating factor to keep on using CPAP.
I still had a lot of skeletal pain, however. Most of that disappeared when I eliminated grains from my diet. I still have occasional bouts of sciatica but much shorter duration than before. The skeletal pain, in general is GONE unless I cheat and eat grain-based foods or ingest them accidentally.
I can't tell you how much the quality of my life has improved since I am no longer in constant pain.

WOW! From the looks of this image you've lost just about ALL your disk height in virtually all joints from S1 to t11. Dang. That sucks. Hang in there.avi123 wrote:Comment,Stormynights wrote:I have arthritis, osteoporosis, degenerative disk disease, and spinal cysts. I had one injection that didn't seem to help before I had DVT. Spinal Stenosis*:
My lower spine. Notice the bone spurs at the edges of the vertebras which are rubbing against the nerve roots. Also the L4 vertebrae which is pushed forward (Spondylolisthesis). My spinal epidural injection from a month ago helped me return to the gym and continue with the weight exercises. My spine orthopedist MD (whom I trust) told me that all the push on the Internet about minimal-invasive surgeries to treat spinal disorders, like I have, such as by
https://www.laserspineinstitute.com/hom ... 7AodJlYARw
are for the birds (lies). Only true exposing of the spine and cutting the bone spurs or removing the disc and placing an artificial disc in its place and also do fusion if necessary, are the road to go, OR continue with epidural injections for the rest of my life.

I suffer from fibromyalgia and small cell neuropathy in both feet and hands. I used to experience some level 8+ pain in my feet and occasionally my L hand. Would feel like they were all in a raging fire. I Now take Nerontin ( gabapentin ) and experienced relief from the very first day. Just some tingling in my toes and fingers now. Alive and narcotics such as Oxycodone didn't help at all. Have you tried gabapentin?
Not affected at all by CPAP.

Yes I use Gabapentin. Aleve helps me a lot both with my spinal stenosis pain and the neuropathic diabetic foot pain.

I removed the photo of my lower spine which you copied willy- nilly.
Have you started with woodworking classes at a Woodcraft store near you? As a woodworker you'll live longer.

Re: Pain Syndromes
I have severe hip osteoarthritis (they were unable to get the needle into the space for a steroid injection), bad knees and a recent 3rd degree shoulder separation - i don't find much difference in the pain level with getting the sleep apnea under control. I take ibuprofen ( 800mg ) up to 4 times a day and Tylenol (1 gram ) up to 4 times a day - it doesn't really control the pain but i'm at least semi-functional with it - the worst is when i first get up in the morning - if i need to get moving early - I set the alarm for on hour or two before i have to get up and take the pain killers and go back to sleep

Re: Pain Syndromes
I have Cervical spondylosis which is basically neck arthritis. It's very common with people over age 65, I'm just 30 years early on it! I've only been doing CPAP for a week, and I wouldn't say it's made it better or worse. I suspect I may also have disc degeneration in my lower back, but I haven't been dx with that.

Re: Pain Syndromes
In 2002, I started having severe hip pain which woke me at least twice a night. I rarely had it during the day. I was tired all the time.
It wasn't until I was sent to a pain management doc when the pain from my cancer surgery in 2008 wouldn't go away that I learned that disrupted sleep could cause chronic pain.
Once I got my ASV working right, the pain went away... until I had to do without the ASV for a week thanks to Hurricane Isaac. I took permanent damage from that.
