Machine name

Post by Jasonlboyd » Fri Oct 11, 2013 1:30 pm

Hello,
I'll start by introducing myself. I'm Jason, 32 yrs old in south Arkansas. I went Monday night for my sleep study and according to the tech, I will need a pressure of 10. I'm ready for them to finish relieving my results and call so I can get a machine. After having trouble falling asleep at first, I still felt more rested when I woke up after the test than I do when I normally get a full nights sleep. I was reading other post trying to learn all I can before I get my xpap, and someone mentioned naming their machine. Something I didn't consider, even thought my wife and I have named my truck and my conceal carry weapon and refer to their names often.

To the point of my post, I'd like to hear the names everyone calls their machines.

Jasonlboyd,

Welcome to the forum. Both my parents grew up in Arkansas and I still have extended family there.

My BiPAP's name is Kaa after the snake in the Jungle Book.

Finally, I want to suggest that you read through JanKnitz's excellent What you need to know before you meet your DME and Data capable machines BEFORE you go to pick the machine up or have it delivered to your home.

I'll check those out. That's why I found the forum to try to learn what I can to start.

All four of our trucks have names along with all of the motorcycles. A friend who recently passed and a few others name all their guns. In our house that would be a daunting task just if I named the regularly used ones. In 30 years of collecting only two have ever earned a name. The riot shotgun that lives in my daily driver is called "old ugly" and one of the rifles earned the name "Thor, god of thunder" its first day on the range. Any rifle that after the second shot had half the shooters on the range packing up to leave deserves a name. People I dont even know will ask me how Thor is doing at local gun stores. These are the only inanimate items we have named to date. If I named my bipap machine am afraid it would have to be something nasty this unsayable in polite company.

I've named mine "Obama" because it just blows a lot of hot air.

You must not really like yours to name it something that terrible!

When I was a child, we named my parents' car. (Betsy)
Otherwise, only cats and dogs were named; anything destined for the table went nameless.
Many here have adorable or clever names for their machines, but not I.
To me it is just an appliance. If it "dies", I have to replace it, and it may become a pile of parts on the workbench.

Mine are called #1 and #2 - just to distinguish them to be able to tell when I changed the the filters, etc. on each.

I refer to mine as my battery charger as in my personal batter charger. I never made it to a full name. I do have a name for my 60 lb battery pack that i take to some of the cat shows (a few venues charge $250 for a weekend of electricity). I call it Brutus since it is so heavy.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

The day I name my razor, my iron, vacuum, or my refrigerator is the day I name a cpap machine. Some things are simply best left undone.

What a coincidence -- that's the name of my machine too.
