HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WITH SETTINGS!!!!!

Post by byrnes518 » Wed Oct 02, 2013 10:35 am

Hi,

Any help would be appreciated! I got my machine in 2007 and started having some fatigue health issues so went to a new pulmonologist who suggested I get my machine looked at there to make sure it was still in good working order. So she hooked it up to something and said it was fine but she totally knocked out my original settings which I did not know until I went to bed at 1:30 AM last night! Please do not yell at me for not knowing my settings as I was not prepared for this at all. I went on line to look at how to adjust the machine myself, actually for my husband to do after waking him up but it's an adjustable machine and we don't know how to pick a "Ramp" number setting. The woman who left my machine on "15" I believe mentioned that I had been set at a "5" but I have no idea what ramp number I need and after trying to sleep last night it was too many breaths per minute or seconds or whatever it is. I believe that is the ramp setting but not sure.

I have the Respironics REM star M series cpap or bpap so if anyone can help me with this. Naturally it's been so long since I've been to the place that sold me the machine my records are archived and the sleep study place has to send out for them and I won't get them till Monday and have an important function to go to before that and would like to sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks ahead for any help you can give me!!! Nanook

These instructions will get you into the setup of the M Series machine.......whatever it is.
Without having your previous settings recorded somewhere, you could have a BIG problem in restoring what they were.

Good Luck

Hold down the <- -> buttons while plugging in the little power cord in the back, wait for 2 beeps release buttons.
Then press the + key to enter setup mode, use the <- -> buttons to move to the next field, use the -/+ keys to decrease/increase values, when set press the On/Off button to exit Setup.

Hi - Relax- ramp is only for comfort, convenience, and not therapy. Most of us stop using it soon after starting Cpap as it starts you off at a low pressure (often too low for any comfort or ability to breathe!) and slowly increases the pressure to your prescribed number, but unless that number is very high (more than 10-15) you probably won't need the ramp altogether once you're used to the air being sent in - not a biggie at all!

Now, you said you have either a cpap, or a bipap (less likely) or an apap (auto cpap). Without knowing which, it's hard to help. You need to go to the User Ctl. panel under the logo at the top, then hit Profile and fill in the exact full name plus model # (under the machine - but if there's water in your humidifier pour it out before tilting the machine!) of the machine, plus the same for the mask.

You referred to a #5, which may be the starting ramp pressure, or maybe what the doctor has said is your 'prescribed' pressure except that if that's so, it's not valid - too many doctors and/or dealers don't know what to prescribe or at least how to set the machines (we do and will help you when we know what you're using) so they tell you to just leave the range wide open - IF you have an auto machine vs only a straight cpap one) from 4 (default low and impossible to actually breathe at) to 20, the 'high'. But most of us use e.g. 8-10 for the low number and anywhere from 12-13 and up for the high setting (the low one's more important as if you actually need it to stop apneas at e.g. a pressure of 9, setting the low # at 5 won't do it as it'll take to long for the machine to 'catch' the apnea. You really, really need to get this sorted out! Please do the Profile thing and all the info will appear automatically under your posts so we know what you're using and can try to help.

Model REMstart Auto M Series
Model# 510M

SN: (Flow Generator) ?
(S/N) M000946723 20070504 ?

Also I don't hook up the humidifier as I get a rain forest on my face as it is!

When it comes to the info in the settings I don't want to mess with it myself and am waiting for my husband to come home with advice from you all

Thanks guys!! I will show this to my husband when he comes home. As you know 6 years of sleeping comfortably and then "not" is not a good feeling! Especially when you're fatigued. Anyway I will show him this and he will help me but needed your help first!! Thanks again, Nanook!

PS: FOR SOME REASON MY MACHINE DOESN'T SHOW UP ON THIS SITE JUST THE MASK AND CAN'T FIX IT!!
