Problems with ResScan software
Hi guys just wondering if someone could help me with a software issue.
I have downloaded and installed ResScan (Thanks Pugsy) from the link. When I try to open the program from the icon in the start menu the start screen comes up (the close up of the lady and her eye) and then the program crashes with a message that says "Pure virtual function called." Now I looked into that message a bit and it seems to have something to do with C++ programming. With my little knowledge on C++ from my university days I don't know what it means but I assume that the average person trying to install ResScan should not need to know. I thought it may have something to do with my computer not having the requirements for the software however looking at the list of requirements from the manual my computer is more than fine. For the record I have Windows 7 with Intel I5 2.53GHz processor with 4GB Ram and 32 bit operating system and more than 50GB of spare memory. I have tried re-installing the program (only once) but it made no difference.
Has anyone come across this problem or know what it may be related to?
Also has anyone using an S8 like myself had any success reading the info off the smart card without the expensive ResMed USB smart card scanner. I have a cheaper scanner on order which I thought I might mess around with to get working before I spent more money so any experience or tips would be handy. I might start a separate thread if I get no response on this to broaden the audience.
Cheers Rob

I have a similar problem on a computer. When the program starts, you will see a message that the communication library is missing. Do not know what the problem is.

Re: Problems with ResScan software
To my recollection and observations, there are very few S8 users active on the board.

Re: Problems with ResScan software
Use a utility like CCleaner to make sure the program is completely uninstalled. Uninstallers are notorious for leaving stuff behind. Then reinstall but do not install any of the card drivers. See if that helps. A pay program I use and that seems to work good for managing installs/uninstalls is Revo Uninstaller Pro.Rupert_Reid wrote:Hi guys just wondering if someone could help me with a software issue.

Since the OP has an S8, if they don't install the smartcard reader driver, they have no hope of seeing anything!idamtnboy wrote:Then reinstall but do not install any of the card drivers.

Re: Problems with ResScan software
Nowadays, the only available reader that will work is the ResMed one. There's no other option.Rupert_Reid wrote:Also has anyone using an S8 like myself had any success reading the info off the smart card without the expensive ResMed USB smart card scanner.
There used to be another alternative from ACS (who actually manufactured the ResMed reader) that would work with ResScan, but they are no longer readily available. The whole smartcard market has moved on very considerably since the S8 was initially designed, and the type of software interface used by ResScan to read the S8 card, though an industry standard at the time, is now simply no longer supported by contemporary smartcard readers.
Cheers,
Bill

Re: Problems with ResScan software
Thanks I will give it a go and see what happens. I think I will try to get the program working without the card drivers first so that I can eliminate any variables. I can always install then again later.idamtnboy wrote:Use a utility like CCleaner to make sure the program is completely uninstalled. Uninstallers are notorious for leaving stuff behind. Re: Problems with ResScan software
I thought this might be the case. I did read somewhere on an older forum where someone mentioned they had used an ordinary card reader. Then making some sort of cradle to fit the ResMed smart card to scan. The only problem was it didn't mention if they had success or not so I thought I might give it a go. I guess I will be ordering the ResMed scanner then!billbolton wrote:Nowadays, the only available reader that will work is the ResMed one. Re: Problems with ResScan software
I tried the uninstaller like you said but it has not helped. Thanks for the advice. Just wish I knew what the problem was because I really want to be able to look over the data over different periods. Until then I guess I have to look at the results each morning and try to see any trends.idamtnboy wrote:Use a utility like CCleaner to make sure the program is completely uninstalled.
