Hello all!
I recently became eligible for Medicare and chose to go with one of the Medicare Advantage Plans, namely MediGold. I wanted to choose a DME close to me versus 60 miles away. I found one less than 2 miles from where I live and visited them yesterday with copies of my sleep studies and doctor RX's. I just need a new mask at this time, since I have two machines. There will be a delay because the RT has to get a copy of my last face-to-face visit with my CNP and approval from MediGold. I feel like Christmas time has come early.
While visiting their website today, I see they have a large variety of masks to choose from, but was somewhat surprised to see their CPAP/BiPap selection contained a lot of S8 and S7 machines (they did also have the S9 listed).
I guess a little CPAP knowledge is sometimes not a good thing. I had purchased my own machines pre-Medicare but if I needed a new machine, I know I wouldn't be happy with an older model even if it was a "good" machine. I guess I also sometimes fail to recognize that a lot of Pappers don't know or care about their daily numbers and having the most up-to-date products.
I am so glad I found this site years ago and learned how to adjust my own therapy. I got no help from the sleep doctor I saw one time, as did many of you. Pugsy has helped and advised me time and time again. I am so thankful for her knowledge and desire to help others. Thank you Pugsy!! ♥♥♥ Also, I thank each of you that frequent this board and help people with their problems. I have struggled with my own therapy and don't feel qualified to give advice to others. I hope to reach that point someday. I still suffer from fatigue and brain fog although my AHI has been under 1 most nights. Blood tests have all come back within normal ranges, so I may have to accept the symptoms will never go away.
I was uninsured for four years prior to reaching Medicare age and I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I was so afraid I would have a medical emergency and no way to pay the bills that would follow. In this instance, getting old has had an added benefit, Medicare. Whether you love it or hate it, it is a blessing to me to again have insurance coverage.
There are no questions in this post. I just wanted to acknowledge how freeing it is to have insurance again and be able to get masks, supplies without paying the full price OOP. I realize I will still have a co-pay but it is still much cheaper than paying the full cost. Also, this post is to say "thank you" to each one of you that participate here, give advice and a good belly laugh occasionally. God bless each one of you.
