Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome

Edit 11/8/2020.....apparently the above was a link to article in mainesleepsociety publication...no longer active for some reason or other.
Sorry...I have no idea which publication but if someone just googles "Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome" you will likely find lots to read and probably even more current articles since this is a very old thread

Because this is styled "Basics," perhaps the heading should say "Sleep-Disordered Breathing" because a newbie might not understand that TLA.

Basics? These are medical papers that are difficult to read, especially when one is sleep-deprived.

Still looking for the basics...

Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but I'll make the following suggestions.

1) For all things related to data written by a patient and for other patients, see Pugsy's Pointers...SleepyHead Tutorial...data understanding in the stickies.

2) If you're looking for a newbie's guide to the most basic information about what the lingo surrounding a diagnosis of OSA actually is, my Understanding the data in your sleep study might help.

3) If you're looking for some high quality detailed information about just what OSA is, how it adversely affects both our bodies and our sleep, and how CPAP (and other potential therapies) address the issue, then you might want to buy Sleep Interrupted by Dr. Steven Park. It's available on line through Amazon or you can buy a Kindle version from Dr. Park's webpages at http://doctorstevenpark.com/sleep-interrupted . Dr. Park is a well respected sleep doctor; his target audience in Sleep Interrupted are patients. But he's writing to patients who really want to know something about OSA. The book is not dumbed down (like so many "patient brochures" about OSA are), but at the same time, he knows that patients don't have the technical and medical background that he does. Overall, his writing style is right on target for the expected audience for his book.

Although Tío [m]ollete is fully capable of tongue-in-cheek humor in labeling threads, I think the "basic" of the "CPAP Basics" threads is often referring to places one can learn about the scientific basis, the underlying general principles, of CPAP therapy.

"Basic" can mean "fundamental" in the sense of being of central or primary importance as factual, deep-rooted information.

Besides, "CPAP Basics" kind of rhymes and has a nice beat to it that you can dance to.

Small "m", please.

If people looked at the Chapters in order, they would have seen the excellent resources by CLA and Mayo in Chapter 1 to lay an excellent foundation for their SDB-KB.

¿Por qué habría de hacerlo? Está escrito en el botón que mollete ama "Mollete". Espero que no pensaste que estaba diciendo me amo a mí mismo! Eso sería sin duda fuera de lugar para los pobres, humildes mollete!

Mollette is no longer active on the forum. He has retired. Doesn't need or want to come here anymore.
A lot of his links here are broken but there's still good information in what he wrote so that is why the topic remains.
Links get broken all the time for various reasons.
These topics are all submitted by volunteers...no one gets paid here.
If a link breaks then it breaks and people just have to accept it and deal with it.
There is no broken link police here.

Sorry but you have to do your part as well. Accept that sometimes things aren't perfect and you might have to do some searching yourself.
