I have found a down side to CPAP specially my ASV machine.
It is habit forming.
I have found that I am spoiled by it.
I have found that if I try to sleep without it I can’t.
I have found that I have grown lazy with it and if I try to sleep without it I feel like I can’t get my breath.
I feel like I am straining to draw a good breath.
I find that I miss how almost effortless it is to intake with the machine pushing the air down my wind pipe.
I only feel this when I try to sleep at night without it.
Anyone else find this true?

Re: CAP Habit forming
I think of it as a "crutch" that I will probably need for life, being born imperfect. (OMG! ME?)
It is good when it feels more normal to do the right thing than not.
Now if you find yourself sleeping 23 hours a day, maybe that would be an addiction.
(either that or you've been infected with cat DNA)

That cat DNA comment made me snort!
As to the original post, I feel that way too. When I lay down on the bed it doesn't take long for me to remember that I "need" my mask. I have often wondered if I lost more weight would I still need it and I think that now even if I didn't need it I would want it. That's really hilarious since I original hated it and thought I would never get use to the mask.

That is not a downside. It's a benefit.I have found a down side to CPAP specially my ASV machine.
It is habit forming.
The downside is experienced by people who have not made it a habit and continue to consider it a chore.
Glad to hear you got da habit.

Breathing, adequate O2 and sleep with REM is addictive for most of the human race.

Re: CAP Habit forming
My glasses are "habit-forming," then, too, I guess. Maybe it would be better if I never knew what it was like to see--then I wouldn't know what I was missing when trying to see without my glasses. But as it is, I am completely "addicted" to seeing the world around me.
If you had never experienced what it is like to be able to breathe and sleep at the same time, you would never know what you were missing when you tried to sleep.
Life is "addictive" and "habit-forming." That's no reason to think it is a bad thing.
Where do they offer that cat-DNA therapy, Chunky?

7 year user...
I don't sleep even for naps without my Bi-Pap. I don't even bother. Before I started "using" I would fall asleep watching TV, at family events, driving etc... not very healthy.
Now that I am hooked, that doesn't happen any more. When I go to sleep, I sleep soundly, completely and wake up refreshed. I do have a sort of a two sleep method to sleeping which works really well for me.. but I like my habit, have no plans on changing it.
Even have a backup machine and backup long term power if needed.
