First three days; not so good?
Re: First three days; not so good?
Oh yes, I am using the CFlex option on setting 2 and must say it does help quite a bit. Just think I have to acclimate to things a bit more and hopefully I will do better.
Re: First three days; not so good?
Scooter for me it just took time to adjust to 'it'. Five months in and I'm able to keep my mask on for eight hours, that includes a bathroom trip in those eight hours. I don't feel fantastic yet, but I have had improvements, for example I longer have the headaches that make my head feel like its been cleaved in half. Nightly bathroom trips are down to one instead of three. I've also been told that my mood is improving, I'm not so snappy as before. I need to point out that I'm currently on medication that severely inhibits my REM sleep, so that is a big factor in how I feel.
Basically I'm saying give yourself more time. It won't happen overnight, but it will happen

Thanks mgaggie for the words of encouragement, I really need to hear them after another slightly awful night. I am feeling better in the daytime now though, just wishing I could sleep better at night but it comes with time. I do notice a lot of positives in how I feel so I am sticking with it, I just can seriously sympathize with those who get easily discouraged after not seeing any results.
Re: First three days; not so good?
Scooter - how is the mask working for you? Are you getting any leaks that are keeping you awake? I know that when I started therapy, it took about 15 minutes each night to get used to the air, but it took much longer to get used to the mask. When I would move from side to side, the mask would often move and I'd need to lift it from my face a little and let it re-seat to stop leaks. I wondered if that was related to the issues getting good sleep?
For me, the first 4-5 nights were pretty poor. It got better after that, but it still took me quite a while to fall asleep for the first month or so.

Re: First three days; not so good?
The mask for me doesn't seem to be an issue, leaks don't seem to happen all that much. I am getting one of the CPAP pillows soon so hoping that helps with finding a good pillow position not to disturb the mask seal. For me it just seems that I am too aware of my breathing when on CPAP. I don't know how to explain it, it's just not second nature like sleeping regular which is the main thing for me. I do find I spend time where it seems like I am still awake but out of it. It is different sleeping with something on me but I don't think that's the full issue.

I remember thinking about breathing. I hadn't done it in a long time now. This will pass.Scooter32 wrote:The mask for me doesn't seem to be an issue, leaks don't seem to happen all that much. Re: First three days; not so good?
I was very aware of my breathing too, I would end breathing very deeply lots and then get atummy full of air. Now I don't think about it.
I remember being thrilled that I had OSA, it wasn't all in my mind, there is an actual name for it! I was excited about getting my machine, 4 hours first and second nights. Then BAM! it hit me, the mask was uncmfortable, I can't sleep with this air being shoved up my nose. The aerophagia started and my reflux staryed playing up, and worst of all, I still felt like crap. I expected to be feeling better after using the machine for a couple days.
Last night I slept through, no waking up for a bathroom break at 4am (my dog was most disgusted as I will let her in my room at that time, she had to wait till 8am this morning).
You can do it scooter!

Re: First three days; not so good?
I am actually very happy that my doctor suggested that I could have sleep issues. While being a pain to deal with, I have been feeling better each day after using CPAP and I even seem to be eating a bit less which means hopefully I can drop a few pounds. It is a good thing, just will take some getting used to.mgaggie wrote:I remember being thrilled that I had OSA, it wasn't all in my mind, there is an actual name for it!

Well done! For the majority of us we will get bettet slowly. I've just started waking up at 8am befor my alarm goes off, definiately unheard of for many yearsScooter32 wrote:I am actually very happy that my doctor suggested that I could have sleep issues.
