Centrals?
IF you're having centrals can (and I'n not saying in every case it does in fact probably in 99.9% percent of the cases it doesn't) that mean that your heart is pausing?? just curious because I have a known history of sinus pauses sometimes at night and I'm on an antiarrythmic drug as well. I noticed this morning that when 2 of my centrals occured my heart rate was really low as well as the breathing so just wondered if there could be any correlation?? thanks

Re: Centrals?
For MOST people the connection between the two is tenuous at best. But in your case, with the arrhythmia issues, there might be a connection. I would ask your cardiologist.

Re: Centrals?
Have you looked at the possibility that whatever neurological process that causes the centrals is causing the arrythmia rather than the other way around? Maybe something to ask a neurologist (or your cardiol.).

Re: Centrals?
In my case, there seems to be no correlation between central apneas and any heart rhythm issues. During the periods of my life where I've been in excellent aerobic shape and had a low resting heart rate I get a lot of PVC's, so my medical history has that flagged as an issue. During my 3 sleep studies however, I've never had any, although I have a lot of central apneas. Seems I even get central apneas when I'm not on a pressure breathing machine, and they go way up on a machine. The lowest they could get my AHI under CPAP was mid 30's with all the apneas being central, and during the bipap titration the best it got was a little over 10. During that time my heart rhythm normal. It was one of the things the lab tech commented on after my first sleep study as he had anticipated issues based on my medical history.

Also, chronically disrupted sleep can cause PVCs. I don't know if that's the kind of arrhythmia you're experiencing.

Re: Centrals?
very good points. I don't have that many centrals and my AHI is under 1 which is very good but most of the time when i'm having events they are centrals. now there have only been a few times when i can actually see where the heart rate slows way down during a central.
