Is this legit or snake oil? CPAP Tornado?

CPAP Guardian: Tornado Ozone Disinfect or to Clean and Sanitize CPAP Equipment and Accessories.

According to marketing information:

1. It produces disinfection gas mixed ozone and plasma by the internal generator

2. The disinfection machine automatically releases disinfection gas and disinfects through the special tube into the interior of CPAP

3. Disinfection gas permeates thoroughly the whole inside of CPAP and achieves the total sterilization.

4. Ensure to keep the concentration of disinfection gas by the timer device to guarantee the sterilization effect.

It's just under $100, and only uses batteries, and they claim it lasts for 600 hours, and the disinfection time is 30 minutes after which time
they send you replacement parts. It is designed to disinfect just the machine, and heated humidifier, not your mask or tubing.

Thoughts?

1. Do a forum search for "ozone".
2. Look here: viewtopic/t91142/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=90 ... ne#p832052

It sounds like a solution looking for a problem.

Ozone of sufficient concentration to disinfect might also destroy the machine. Ozone can wreak havoc on rubber and plastic. Have you ever seen 'ozone cracking' on car tires?

If you read the FAQ it poses the question of Ozone being harmful to the human body and completely dodges its own question. It's dangerous stuff irrespective of its volatility.

The CDC provides information on a number of sterilization methods at this link. It seems to indicate that ozone sterilization is reasonable to use. Vaporized Hydrogen Peroxide being an alternative. I would however have serious concerns about rather or not a device valued at under $100 or even $1000 could accomplish this task effectively.
