How Can I Tell In Sleepyhead Or Rescan When I Was In REM?
I'm still pretty new to the whole CPAP experience, and I am still trying to understand how to interpret my nightly S9 Autoset data. I'd like to be able to tell in both the Sleepyhead and Rescan 4.2 software when I was in REM stage of sleep. I've read Pugsy's posts about Sleephead software as well as other post on how to interpret the data results, but I can't find anything that tells me how to know when I was in REM.

No XPAP is capable of detecting sleep stages, of which REM is one. The only way
to do that accurately is by measuring brain waves (EEG).
Since many people tend to have more events during REM, periodic clusters of events may
indicate times of REM sleep.

Agreed. A good sleep tech could probably make an educated guess based on data from our machines, maybe an even better one if oximetry were provided, but without the eeg graphs, it's just a reasonable guess.jdm2857 wrote:No XPAP is capable of detecting sleep stages, of which REM is one. The only way

From the following ResScan graph I am taking a reasonable guess that I had REMS at about 3:30; 4:30; 5:50.

Sometimes you can make a good guess from some of the Sleepyhead data. See a post I made here:

I must have missed this previous May Post which discusses exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks for pointing it out to me.SomeJoe7777 wrote:Sometimes you can make a good guess from some of the Sleepyhead data. See a post I made here:

Unfortunately unlike your graphs which have some very clear variable points, my Tidal Volume seems pretty steadily variable all night.

Here's another way of trying to read the tea leaves, depending on your sleep quirks: I have bumpy, spiky leak lines continuously through the night because I shift around so much and have a nasal cannula mask (and an imperfect mouth seal). When my settings got high enough to be therapeutic (I woke feeling more refreshed) it also coincided with flatter, to completely flat, areas in my leak line, 2-3 times a night, after the 90 minute mark: my wild guess is that this may be due to REM paralysis (the only other time the leak line is that flat is when I'm lying still and still awake, waiting to drop off to sleep.) My biggest problem has been 0-4% REM per night, so feeling better + flatlining (in a good way) has me guessing that might be REM.
