IPAP 18 Seems to be THE Number

Post by Madalot » Mon Jun 24, 2013 8:55 am

It's hard to believe that I've gone from titrated at IPAP 11 to where I am now, on the Trilogy with a minimum IPAP of 18. But I tell you what, it is working. It wasn't easy to adjust to 18, but now that I've done it, I am getting better sleep than I have since I started this mess. I can only surmise that the changing pressures (from 14 - upwards of 20 sometimes) WAS disturbing my sleep.

I fall asleep within 5 minutes and usually STAY asleep for 4-5 hours. I'm positive pain is waking me, forcing me to move. I am able to fall back to sleep quickly and usually sleep another 3-5 hours after that.

While my body still won't cooperate, I am more awake and wanting to do more. I am able to keep moving longer and later into the day. I still doze off when I get into my recliner, but don't feel the need to nap as often.

It would be nice if I had to way to check my SLEEP oriented data, but it might be better that I can't so I can't/don't dwell on numbers. What's important now is how I feel and it's about as good as it has been since Nov 2009.

Long, hard road, but I will TAKE it.

Wow ... I'm really happy to hear that you've made such progress! That should be encouraging new for other's on the board. It sometimes takes a LONG time to find the solution, but it's there for most of us!

Congrats and I hope over time this helps you with the pain as well. I know good rest really helps me with mine, but I think we've got very different issues...

This is great news! So glad you stayed with it and were able to adjust to the higher pressure. You deserve some good sleep.

Wow, that's great news ... now let's hope your inner ear canals and eustachian tubes can handle that high pressure (I'm jealous, so far). Wishing you good luck.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

What's almost scary is that 18 feels like nothing to me now. I wish I knew if that was a good thing or a bad thing!!!

Probably a good thing. It's an indication that your diaphragm has adjusted to the pressure. That you can breathe against this without really feeling it is means that your diaphragm has been exercised enough that it might actually be helping your symptoms. It's not going to make things better .. but it might be helping you maintain. We will take that, for certain! So, keep up the good work!! Yeah, Madalot!!

This is as reasonable explanation as any so I will take it! And it makes sense. Thanks John.

I appreciate all the good wishes and support, as I always have.

I have realized that despite the difficulties, I had to travel this path the way I did to get here. Had someone said "try increasing your Min IPAP to 18" I probably wouldn't have done it before I did. I had to do all the things I did, suffer through all of it, until *I* got to a point, with a new doctor and a different perspective on everything, before I could do this.

The fix was relatively simple. Who would have thought?

I am sleeping really well for the first time in a LONG time.

The downside is that with my condition, things change and I know this won't stay this good permanently (or maybe not even long term). But I am NOT worrying about that now and am going to enjoy it as long as I can. And when things go south again (they will at some point) I'll travel another path until I find a fix for it. As long as it takes.
