cpap air filters on floor -white and gray

Post by knightlite » Fri Jun 14, 2013 11:28 am

My 560p is working fine , except filters were on the floor this morning . I have a severe head cold or something for about 4 days . Did I sneeze/cough it out in my sleep? Not a clue . Should I be thinking of a fix for that . Worse yet I found a bottle cap from a water bottle sucked up to the opening .
Last night was my first try with the pada cheek liner on the amara . I liked it even in my sick condition . It did not leak much and no moisture problems .Comfortable and nice on the skin.
Not a fair trial to say the least. I'm not worried about breathing as I have awakened in the past after an hours long power outage and it didn't bother me .
Has anyone experienced this filter thing .

It may be that you pulled the filters onto the floor when mostly asleep as you might have when first starting Cpap (unless that's actually not at all likely because of 'geography').

Its out of my reach, and my big fingers have trouble getting them out to even clean them . When I sat up right that morning I was hacking before I got the mask off due to phloem running down my throat but my nose was clear . I changed out the white filter as it was turning color after I found it. If it happens again I will put a keeper over it somehow.

It's been mentioned before on this forum that coughing can knock out the filters.

I agree with RandyJ and wanted to add that any back pressure can blow out the white fine particulate and grey foam filters on the PR System One PAP machines. Do a test... put the filters back in and hook up like you do at night when you go to bed, but leave the machine off. Do a fake cough, sneeze, or exhale into the mask and watch the filters fly out of there like magic. I have even found that at lower pressures or when I used to use the ramp feature in my early days, that this can happen even with the machine on.

Coughing or sneezing PRS1 filters out is quite common, or knocking them out if you move the machine or something around it. I haven't heard any really good solution. Some people put rubber bands completely around the machine front to back to keep them from falling out.

Philips really should fix this problem.

Thanks for the input, nice to know this can and does happen to others. Now I will think of a fix . Some type of a removable wire grid on the outside. Still have this head cold or whatever it is.

An elastic band around the machine as was said above will work, and you can remove it when you're over your cold. I've never heard of filters coming out under normal conditions, just with sneezing and coughing.

I put half a strip of tape at the left and right edges of the filter, so it creates about 1/8 inch "retaining strip" on each side. I can get the filters in and out, but they can't come out by themselves.

Sometimes I gently stretch the grey foam filter when rinsing/washing it. I believe it helps keep it filling the space.

The electric cord can be directed down so that the round thing on it rests against the filters. That's what I have done and it keeps them from popping out. Mine does it once in a while, so I make sure to check them every night before I go to sleep just by feeling around back there.
