Slept through the night with Activa

Post by DME_Guy » Sat Jun 03, 2006 8:27 am

I switched to the Activa a few days ago and slept through the entire night for the first time since using CPAP last night! I've also used the Swift, Comfort Lite 2, Respironics full face, and the Ultra Mirage full face. They're all great masks but I sleep side to side and the Activa is the only mask that doesn't come dislodged for me.

Sounds like you're the expert now. Wow! I'm still on Swift Pillows. It's looking like I'm going to try either the Redmed Ultra Mirage or the Mirage Activa. I too sleep on my sides at time. Mainly I move around each time my wife moves. It's kind've like taking a drink of something when you see someone else take a drink. Oh yeah!

If I can pick the right ff mask that gives me a good seal, then I'm going to be so happy to be able to breath through my mouth and my nose. I hope I'm not assuming that one. Both mouth and nose right? Not just mouth?

Congrats on the full night of rest. I'm still waking up in the middle of the night. Last night I woke up and what I remember is maybe trying to take disconnect the mask from the hose and forgetting how and panicking. I woke my wife up and she couldn't figure out what was wrong. I was like "help me with this" and she was looking at me and wondering what I wanted. But she said just before that I had my mask off and was just sitting there. I think my pressure is too high at times. It's fine to go to sleep but later I'll wake up and stay awake awhile.

I too have found the Activa to work well for us side-sleepers. The reason it does I think in part is that it has a relatively large, loosely flexible nasal covering and as you breathe in and out it flexes and keeps a pretty good seal. I also bought a Comfortlite 2 and found it to be nice and light and comfortable, but the seal would break at times during the night and wake me up--I know there are ways to deal with this. But, I also found it oddly claustrophobic just having something inserted in my nose, whereas with the Activa your nose is free inside the mask, which makes it feel less confined. Probably just me!

For side sleepers the Activa is the best in my opinion. I still have to go back to my UMFF mask if I have sinus problems, and I get tons of leaks from that unless I sleep on my back.

The Activa's active cushion makes it best for sleeping on your side and you don't have to tighten the straps, mine are pretty loose.

Congrats, DME. Finding the right mask makes a huge difference in how well you sleep. I too like the Activa. It was my first mask, and (although it isn't perfect) still my favorite. The complaints i have about it (quite large for my face and a bit claustrophobic) led me to buy an Aura 6 months ago. The Aura is actually fairly comfortable and seals fairly well, but it sits in a drawer. It's loud, and I prefer the Activa.

Having said that, my search for the holy grail of masks continues. Just ordered a ComfortLite 2. Guess we'll see.

Haven't tried a FF mask since I used one for my sleep study, Rastaman. Hardly slept that night, and can't imagine a FF mask working for me. But yes, you can breathe thru mouth or nose.
