sleep study results in-UARS

well, I got my sleep report back. No apnea. No cpap so I guess that is a good thing. Sounds like a dental device is what I need.
here are the analysis observations:
Thye patient had some difficulty sleeping with a sleep efficiency of 85.2%. Sleep latency was 1.28 minutes, however latency to any consolidated sleep is 38 minutes. A significant number of spontaneous awakenings and arousals are noted. REM latency is increased at 6 hours 26.5 minutes. Numerous limb movements are noted during wake, which may account for the increased latency to consolidated sleep and the lengthy awakenings during the early part of the study. No ECG abnormalities are noted.

Diagnosis: Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome, physilolgic insomnia with a suggestion of restless leg syndrome.

Stage 1 Sleep:4.6%, Stage 2:76%. Stage 3: 3%, Stage 4: 0%, REM:16.5%.

Hummm, no stage 4,, no wonder I hurt every where and am totally exhausted!

I had 31 awakenings after sleep onset.

I hope that is enough to give you an idea. If you want more info ask specifically what you want and I will try to find it on my report. Most of this is greek to me

Let me know what you think!

Hi, SleepyBon.........I, too, have Fibromyalgia......and I've heard that there is some connection between FM and OSA.........I rather suspect that you do have OSA, but have 'slipped under the radar', so to speak. (Blasted computer is having hissie-fits tonite!)

What about the restless legs?

Post by kteague » Fri Jun 02, 2006 10:29 pm

Were your legs wired to specifically look for restless legs or was it a tech's incidental observation? Your stats are proportionately similar to mine before treatment for RLS and PLMD. My first test was negative for sleep apnea, although I KNEW I'd had classic episodes. Turns out my repeated awakenings from PLMD prevented me from getting to the stage of sleep for the sleep apnea to kick in. After treating the limb movements, it kicked in. Subsequent studies confirmed OSA. So, what is your doc planning to do about the RLS? What's going to be done about the UARS?

hey, kteague

Yes my legs where wired for movement. I didn't move around when I was sleeping, just when I was "awake". Since I am from Canada and had my study done in the US, I have to see my GP. I see him on Tuesday, and we will talk about what to do about the restless leg etc. I was hoping to be able to go on Lunesta for sleep, but it isn't available in Canada. NOT IMPRESSED! I have the company who did my sleep test checking into the dental devices, since I have to pay out of pocket anyways, I might be able to get one cheaper in the US, and the province I live in they only have one place that offers this service, and they only have one type of device. I would like to have more of a selection to choose from.

I'm not really surprised that I don't have OSA.

Hi bon,

For help with sleep study results:
http://www.apneasupport.org/forum-4.html

"sleepydave" (RPSGT sleep tech who manages an accredited sleep lab) helps a lot of people make sense of their sleep study reports. When a study or a report seems "off", he's also suggested specific things people should discuss with their doctor.

Read as many of the topics on that forum as you can before posting your info so you can see what kind of charts Dave needs to see in order to help you.

Post your study results there and perhaps he'll see it. It's best if you can gather up some charts and tables from your study, rather than just a synopsis summary report.
