Quattro Air early review

Post by Denial Dave » Wed Jun 12, 2013 3:01 pm

I got mine this afternoon.... wiped it down and put it on after watching the video from resmed. I had some trepidations about not having clips, but the hooks on the mask work great... it appears that you only need to remove one lower strap to take it off... the other 3 can remain in place.... easy disconnect from either the straps or via the elbow.

hose connects directly to the elbow now... no more need for the quick disconnect part anymore.

Fired up my machine and laid down with the mask on for about 20-30 minutes.

Tossed, turned, rolled over, pushed, pressed, really worked it, etc... Zero issues with leaks or farts at my high pressure and it stayed in place the entire time.

holey moley it's light on the face!! you know it's there, but barely. LOL

Exhaust venting is really disfused on the Air.... I barely felt it coming out even at my higher pressures.

Quattro pad-a-cheek liner for the standard Quattro fits but it will need some tweaking. Mostly because the new forehead design on the mask doesn't allow the liner pad to wrap in place like it did on the Quattro.

I've sent some photos and input to Karen@ pad-a-cheek...Karen is already working on a new design and will have it out shortly

The new Design of the straps are pretty nice too.. much more cushion to them...

More tomorrow after a nights sleep

Interesting, thanks for that. I've been looking around for a backup FFM for when I have a cold or can't use a nasal pillow mask for some reason, and this one is sounding really good. Especially being an active sleeper, sounds very stable.

Thanks for the review Dave, it's good to know that with all your tossing and turning, no leaks! We should probably get ours tomorrow.

I have not posted in awhile. I have been using the Aloha mask with success for some time, though I wake up with leaks almost every morning. I have problems mouth breathing and have been taping. I am just getting tired of the taping routine (also have to put a head band around my mouth) every night. I received the Quattro Air today and am looking forward to using it tonight. I cannot believe how light it is compared to the original Quattro. I will post a review after using the mask a few nights.

Hi - can you tell me if the vent is that flat triangle on the hose take-off piece, or the circular thingy on the mask itself (behind the triangle)? Hard to tell from the pictures. Thanks!

The vent is the circle on the mask itself...the triangle on the detachable elbow is the anti-asphyxiation valve. The vent blows the air away from the one wearing the mask as well as his/her mate.

Hi Julie

The venting is via little tiny holes all around the circular part where the elbow connects... I wore the mask last night... My wife had no issues with the new venting location

I had one minor issue... I tend to sleep with one or both hands near my face... the new vents blew right on my hand and woke me a few times.

I also have one concern about the new location.... As someone that buries his face into the bed pillow, it seems like my pillow may obstruct the venting slightly..... but I'm not sure if it is enough to be concerned about

Dave

Re: Quattro Air early review - after one night

Post by Denial Dave » Thu Jun 13, 2013 4:18 am

I slept pretty good with the new mask.... it is extremely light on the face! I used a very modified quattro pad a cheek liner... only because I hate the feel of silicone cushion on my face

Karen @ pad-a-cheek has some concerns about using the quattro liner on this mask because the velcro connection on the liner slightly covers the circular area at the vent. So I did some minor tweaks to use mine until she has a new design liner available

there was little or no pressure on the upper part of my nose from the cushion. I did have some pressure on the sides from the cushion.

Leaks were very minimal ( below 10 for 95% of the time) & the mask did not move all over my face like the Quattro FX did. At some point in the night, it did rise up on my face a small bit, but it did not leak. I discovered it when I woke up because of venting.

The new location of the venting is great for bed partners!..its very diffused and quiet... But if you sleep with your hands near your face, you may need to adjust your hand location.... it was just enough to wake me, which then alerted me to slightly adjust the mask on my face.

I also have a concern about obstructing the new vents when I bury my face into the bed pillow.

Straps are very comfortable. For me, this will be a great mask, after some breaking in of the cushion and a few more nights of fine-tuning the strap adjustments.

The new strap and forehead set-up is a little weird and will need some fine tuning to get it right for me. It seems like if you pull the upper straps tight, it flexes the forehead piece and somehow results in more pressure on the lower straps.

Good news is that I had zero strap marks on my face after a night of sleep.

All in all, I like it a lot!!

This is great news! I love the Mirage FX and am tired of putting the elastic band around my face to keep from mouth leaking, and this looks so much like it, I'm anxious to get it and try it myself. Everything you said you like about it is what I like about the Mirage FX... can't wait!
