Most Comfortable Full-Face Mask?

Post by FJB » Fri Jun 02, 2006 7:05 pm

Howdy All,

I need a full face mask. Does anyone have any reviews? My nose mask and I are not getting along at all.

I wanted a Darth Vadar model but they don't make 'em. I'll have to do with 2nd best.

A million thanks for any tips!

Joe

Most Comfortable Full face mask

Post by Pad A Cheek » Fri Jun 02, 2006 7:39 pm

Hello Joe and welcome to the forum.

I like the Ultra Mirage Full Face mask myself, I only use it if I cannot breathe out of my nose. For the most part I use an Activa nasal mask.

Good luck with your treatment. When you get everything dialed in just right, it really makes a big difference.

Sleep well,
Karen

I also use the Resmed Ultra Mirage and have great success with it. It's easy to adjust and easy to get in and out of, plus it has a quick release for making early morning runs to the Loo.

I also use a Hans Rudolph 7600 VIP76 Full Face Mask on occasion. The Hans-Rudolph has no "exo-skeleton" so to speak. It's totally constructed of soft rubber. This mask fits under the chin. I imagine that helps hold it in place. No forehead pad etc. It's extremely comfy. I had trouble with it sealing around the bridge of my nose. I just got the Sensa Seal accessory from CPAP.com today. It's an additional bit of rubber that fits at the top of the mask that may help with the leaks on the bridge of my nose. I'm trying it tonight.

I also have tried the Fisher & Paykel FlexiFit HC431 Full Face Mask. That didn't work for me at all. I could never get a seal that lasted longer than about an hour.

Hope this helps you out a bit.

You know, when they used to talk about something working for one person when it didn't work for another.........as in ' it's all in how you hold your face'? It's a little like that, only it's about the shape of your face........I use the F&P431....and I just love it.....or will again when I tighten up the headgear after my face shrunk!

I prefer the F&P 431, however My Comfortfull give me better AHI numbers, I don't know why the leak rate is just a little higher with the 431. As Gidgie says for some reason use of the mask does change our face some, maybe the pressure changes the blood flow on our face. It's like the skin tightens, and is smoother (probably added moisture), I think that's why we trade back and forth between masks and all of a sudden the mask that wasn't working well for us works better.

It's a strange life for us hoseheads, that's for sure. Jim

I'm using the swift mirage and it's pretty good overall. It's light weight, that's for sure, but I think I might need a full face mask too. I seem to be leaking air from the mouth. My wife didn't notice me doing that last night. It's really only been a night or two in the last week. But just the same I'm thinking a full-face mask might work best. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm cross-referencing with what my sleep disorder center offers for sale.

I agree Goofproof. FF masks do change our face a bit.

I have very oily skin and there are nights where I have to take the mask off and clean it at 4AM due to leaks. Once around the seal (and my face) with a Kleenex alcohol free anti-bacterial wipe usually does the trick. Could be that just re-adjusting the headgear is correcting the leaks. Who knows?

All I know is that I've been doing the APAP thing for about 6 weeks now and I am no longer falling asleep at my desk and sleeping all day on the weekends anymore. I've always been a 10 to 12 hour sleeper. These days with the APAP I go to bed about 11:30 PM and I'm usually up at 6 or 6:30 AM wide awake and ready for the world. It's like I am another person.

Wish I'd have done this 10 years ago....I've slept half my life away....

This group has been a lifesaver for me. Between being diagnosed and getting my PAP I read tons of posts about all manner of things CPAP and was able to steer my DME to the exact machine and mask that I wanted. No haggling and no hassle. I love this place

I like the Resmed Ultra Mirage full face. Where I work, about 90% of all full face masks RXd is this mask if that helps.

Hi Fellow Hose-Heads,

In desperation, I ran (crawled down actually) to Apria Healthcare and got a FlexiFit 431. I got three hours on it yesterday afternoon and five last night.

It started leaking and making a bar-rap-rap-rap noise about 5:30 AM, but you know what? I actually feel better!!!

Flipping Amazing! I genuinely feel better. (No placebo effect.) Actually woke with some ambition, no headache, and a lot clearer thinking. WOW!

I been struggling with treatment for months. They say recovery can take weeks, months yada. My apnea is bad too. I am almost completely incapacitated by it. I've had it for 20+ years, but it only really started impacting me last year. (Or so I think.....)

I will try some other masks mentioned here, but I am encouraged, folks.

Thank you!

Joe

i like the comfortfull 2, the 431 was just too leak prone for overnight use, although for short naps it's pretty good, i'm also using a comfort gel nasal that i'm trying to get used to, seems to work good, but i didn't use it last night because of congestion,
