Chin Strap
Chin Strap
I just found the name of the chin strap my Doctor ordered it is called Tiara Chin Strap with the cut out for the ears. The one I have now is the universal chin strap with the cut out for the chin. If anyone has the Tiara chin strap I would like to know how good it is $65.00 pretty steep.
ajnitti,
I use the Tiara Chin Strap and it works very well for me. I can't remember exactly what I paid for it - somewhere around $40 after shipping and handling I think but it was well worth it compared to an inexpensive and uncomfortable one that I bought a few weeks ago.
Unfortunately, I did not find it on CPAP.com but another supplier of cpap equipment and accessories provides it.
The Tiara is perhaps the top of the line in chin straps in my opinion as it works well and is comfortable. But it can be a little warm in the summer because the straps cover your cheeks and a portion of your head - that's why I tried a different kind for the summer months.
I prefer using the chin strap to taping my mouth and I have found that using it along with the Aura (Headrest) nasal interface I can generally lower my pressure from 15 to 10 CM H2O and actually lower my AHI to below 5. Without the chin strap my AHI averaged between 8 and 12.
Best of luck wiht it.

I can't be sure if what I have is the same as you are talking about. I have a Tiara medical systems, Inc "Premier style Chinstrap" Reorfer number TMS-07 from Cpap.com.
I don't know if that is the same as what Peels has, but I have issues with it.
Can't stop the top from slipping with or without the back strap. Can't really figure out how the back strap is supposed to work. Has a cutout on one side -- don't know what that is for and no instructions. Hurts my ears. And even when I do use it I still need to tape.
So while Peels loves what she has I don't. Maybe it is not the same thing.
Who knows. Mine is sitting unused.

I have a Tiara chinstrap-the most expensive I found online was under $30.it was 19-20 at one site. I like it though agree that in summer it is likely to be hot as it covers a lot of skin. The back strap seems quite effective at keeping the strap in place on my head. I have also been using a velstretch strap that velcros to a holey cap and that works really well as all the pressure is in just the right area to keep my mouth from popping open. It is a homemade configuration and has some bugs which I'm working on. It will be cooler for summer though.

I had used the RUBY before and had no problem. I just bought a new one and suffered severe reaction. I have no "latex" allergies nor have I had a reaction to neoprene in the past. My "reaction' appears to be more of a chemical burn than standard allergic reaction. Both sides of my face near the mouth, on the chin (a little as i have a beard), and on the back of my neck - left side at the hairline.Maryb wrote:...but even worse I had a terrible allergic reaction to the neoprene in it and ended up in the emergency room after only using it one night. My face got all hot, red and swollen. Ugh! Maryb
Anyone else having these problems?
