Sleep Study Tonight

Post by Cr1kk1t » Thu May 23, 2013 9:33 am

I think I am a little too excited for my sleep study tonight. I am ready to not be this tired ever again. I didn't use my machine the last 2 nights and I am so tired my eyes won't quit watering. And I can't stop yawning every minute or two. Not sure how I am suppose to stay awake all day or not fall asleep while driving to work then to dinner with my mom, then on to the sleep lab at 8 pm.

I did record my O2 all night and it was terrible. 308 minutes below 89%. My basal O2 was 88%. Several places where I just hung out at 84 - 85 for 15 - 20 minutes. No wonder I am so sleepy.

I think I am going to need help staying awake today. I am planning on doing dishes here shortly and some laundry. After that I have no idea until I have to leave for work. sigh........

Any ideas?

Now what to do for an hour to stay awake til work.... hmmmmm

Why didn't you use your machine for the past two nights?

Since you are extremely tired, if you have to drive today it may make sense to
find someone to do the driving for you.

She and I talked about this.
Money is extremely tight...no insurance available to help offset the costs so wanted to make sure that there was absolutely nothing going to maybe mess with the results. We had read where some people think that there is a bit of a "leftover" affect after using cpap machine for a while.
Now I don't know if I buy into it and I don't know if what I read was real truth or old wives tale but in this situation we thought it best to not leave anything to chance that might cause the sleep study to not show what we think is happening.
Too much money at stake and too hard on the pocketbook to have to do another test or have the remote chance of it not showing something that it should show.
I have a sneaky suspicion that there may be some complex sleep apnea involved here and we just didn't want to risk even remotely having any "leftover" effect from the past several weeks using the machine to maybe (even remotely) cloud the results.

Thank you pugsy for explaining. I have a great tech. I am the only patient tonight.
Here is a pic of me all wired up.

Glad you made it....if you we're too tired to drive, was going to suggest public transit or cabs, but looks like you made it.

Good luck, hope everything goes well!

I am home and finally got all that goo washed out of my hair.

I had to sleep supine which is difficult as I never sleep that way. So I layed there for about 2 hours in this twilight sleep before taking a benydryl to aid my zolpidem I had taken a few hours earlier. That seemed to do the trick cause I don't remember much after that. She woke me up at 5 am.

Although the tech could not give me any details, she did say my AHI was 17 something. She also said that I didn't show any true Centrals, that they were all related to me going to sleep or waking up. She knew I had a machine at home and told me not to go higher than 8 until I got the report from the doctor. I do have pressure induced centrals.

At about 2 am or so (can't remember as I was too foggy from sleeping, lol) she hooked me up to cpap. I wore a fisher&Paykel nasal mask with no forehead support. I really like this mask but can't seem to find it on cpap.com. Anyone know which mask I am talking about?

Glad this is done and I can move forward.

I thought it could be the mask that I use, the Opus 360: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/fisher ... -Mask.html, but you said it was a nasal mask, not pillows.

I don't see any F&P masks w/o a forehead component.

Good luck!

Well...I am glad that hurdle has been cleared.
So now we get to wait to find out what the final outcome will be. I am hoping that you will be able to straddle a fine line between the pressure induced centrals and the pressures needed to take care of the obstructive stuff using your current machine. Keep both low enough to be acceptable and not compromise your oxygen situation.
Mainly from the cost aspect of things..those other machines for complex sleep apnea are real pricey.

Curious...I know you live at a higher altitude than most of us...was the sleep study done at locality with approximately same altitude?

Glad things went well and that you aren't having true centrals. You're going to start a trend in taking pics of ourselves once we're wired up!! In fact, we should have a post just to post wired up pics!

(Of course I can say that since I probably won't have another sleep study for quite a while!! )

I hope things go very smoothly for here on out!

Can you describe the mask? Was it a nasal pillow, full face?

Yes, it was. It was at our local hospital just a couple miles from my house.

That would be a fun thread.
The mask was a nasal mask. Very small and light weight. Had no forehead support and was clear. Wish I had taken a picture of it.

I am not familiar with the nasal masks from F & P....there could be one without a forehead support that cpap.com simply doesn't carry.

So definitely over the nose only mask and not pillows???

And...wonder why the comment about "don't use pressure over 8 and having pressure induced centrals" when the tech said most were sleep onset or transition??
