3 abnormal breathing events, longest 15.5 seconds.
AHI: 0.5
CPAP was titrated from 4cm to 12cm, with a C-Flex of +3
Really happy about this as I thought that I was a mouth breather when I slept and found out that I was perfectly fine with the Nasal mask. Now I Just have to wait on TRICARE to approve my CPAP and Mask and hopefully next week I will be able to pick one out.
From looking around here I think that I am going to need a regular CPAP with Ramp, Full data, and heated humidifier.
If anybody has any recommendations on a CPAP please let me know.
Also the mask that I used was a Fisher and Paykel Eson. Again if anybody has any recommendations on a mask that might be better please let me know. I am willing to try anything that is going to work.
Thanks in Advance

Instist on a cpap machine that records leaks! (If your leaking badly, you are not getting treatment) A "auto" or APAP will be of more use to you down the road, as your preasure needs may change in time, or even in the night if you roll over!
I personally like the Phillip Respironics System One ... Either the 550 or 560, but my wife has a ResMed S9 which both record the same basic info ... I just prefer my PR S1
Unfortunatly masks are an individual thing ... All our faces are different ... Try a few ...

Thanks for the info. Does a fully data capable also record leaks or is that something that has to be asked for specifically?123.Shawn T.W. wrote:Instist on a cpap machine that records leaks! If it records full efficacy data leak should be included. If you get a resmed ensure ot does not have the word escape in the title. S9 is the current line. If you go resperoics its either model number above 460 or 460 and above (someone please chime in here.) Most people go with one or the other. There are other brands... but these two brands are the most common. They have easy access to software you cam use to read your data.NavyJeremy wrote:

Re: Newb with both sets of results
Welcome, Jeremy.
Here is information about data-capable machines: http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/ It may not have been updated for a while, but the information is still good. Respironics (a/k/a PR, short for Philips Respironics) has a newer top-of-the-line model 560 which has the option of a heated hose
A definite yes on full efficacy data capability and the heated humidifier. Ramp is less important but might be helpful to you, especially at first. If you have a choice, get an APAP machine because it can be set in APAP mode or CPAP mode, so it's like two machines in one.
I don't know how much latitude Tricare gives you in picking machines. Are you active duty or retiree?

Re: Newb with both sets of results
So after doing some research I think that I am going to convince the DME that I need the ResMed S9 Autoset H5i. Now the only thing that I need to do is figure out what nasal mask I am going to use. Thanks for all the input

Thank you for your service and welcome to the forum.
Masks....individual preference is main motivator and one man's trash is another man's treasure when it comes to masks.
In terms of ease of getting a good seal and maintaining the seal..the nasal pillow mask has the least amount of real estate requiring a seal.
The Swift FX or the Aloha are a couple of nasal pillows masks that I would recommend for newbies to maybe look at if they are leaning towards minimalistic masks.
The Opus 360 is also good but the head gear takes a big more fiddling with.
The Pilairo is also good but its main drawback is the one size fits all headgear. I tried it and it is almost too snug for me so for men who typically have larger heads then it needs to be stretched out or modified a bit to make it work better.
I have never used an over the nose mask so can't help with thoughts on those because I have always used the nasal pillow type of mask. I just recently changed my primary mask from the Swift FX to the Tap Pap nasal pillow mask because it doesn't have any headgear at all and my main thing has always been "less on my face and head". Instead of headgear the nasal pillows are anchored with a mouth guard fitting over the upper teeth.
Be prepared for the lure of different masks...we all have had it happen to us. Always wondering "is this mask better"

It's really not that bad! The good thing is the air blows directly into your nose, not on it which would drive me crazy!NavyJeremy wrote:Thanks Pugsy...I am just not sure how I will feel with things stuffed up my nose, but I guess there is only one way to find out

Re: Newb with both sets of results
Nothing is "stuffed up your nose"...common wrong idea as to where those things go and what they do.NavyJeremy wrote:I am just not sure how I will feel with things stuffed up my nose
The little inner cones of the nasal pillows just barely go into the nostril openings. Just the very tip of the cone is inside the nose. You don't feel it at all because the cone doesn't touch the inside of the nostrils.
The pillow rim rests GENTLY against the nostril opening.
I have heard of people trying to cram the whole thing in the nostril and then complain about the pain...well duh...that's the wrong thing to do.
Watch the video
http://www.cpaplibrary.com/nasal-pillows.html
Most common error that people make with the nasal pillow masks is that they either use the wrong size of nasal pillow (often too small) and/or they have the straps way too tight and end up with piggy nose.
Now there is a nasal prong mask where the prongs actually do go up inside the nostrils...I tried one..now that's a bit weird but not all that bad if the fit is perfect and it has to be perfect.....I ended up being an in between size so wouldn't work.
It either wouldn't seal when inflated or the next size up hurt like the devil when inflated.
