New Swift FX

Post by dozyboy2002 » Tue May 14, 2013 8:01 am

I tried my new Swift FX last night. Two hours later, I was back on my Swift LT. Two problems I had with the FX.

1.) Could not get 100% seal while on my side. Used nasal gel as well.

2.) The lower strap, back of my head always wanted to rise up towards the top of my head. Caused the feeling that the mask was going to come off my head.

Those of you that use the FX, do you have to keep it quite tight to get a good seal? Or is it just me. I am not giving up on the mask after only two hours. If anyone has some tips on using the FX I would be thankful.

Jeff.

For the seal, I think a tiny dab of Lansinoh (lanolin in the baby nursing grocery section) seals better than the saline gels. Also, a Pad-a-Check barrel cozy seems to stabilize the pillow to not go up the nostrils. I have to tighten my straps, but the Pad-a-Check straps prevent marking up the checks. Plus the cloth feels better against my skin than the silicone.

The Swift does tend to ride up the back of the head. Sometimes pulling some hair over the back strap helps. Other members rig up another stabilizer strap---maybe they can picture it for you.

The back strap riding up on the back of the head was a problem for some people.
It never went very far up for me so I didn't do anything but some people added a bit of velcro on the back strap so that the hook ends of the velcro would grab the hair and help keep it from riding up. Not a good solution if there isn't much hair back there though.

I always went to sleep on my side and never had any problems with side sleeping and the nasal pillows moving...wonder if maybe just a little more tension on the back strap and top strap might help???
Just a little though...you don't want piggy nose.

I started therapy with the Swift LT and yes it is probably a bit more stable overall but I just preferred the Swift FX.
You might like the Aloha..it's like a new and improved Swift LT but less "stuff" on the face.

Always wondered why the person that had the Aloha mask before me (that you sent me) had stapled velcro to the back strap....

Great tips in the fitting guide. I usually have no issues with leaks anymore. And as far as the strap riding up in the back, I'm not usually even conscious of it, just reach up and pull it down!

The FX and LT have somewhat different pillow sizes/fits. The FX will not seal well for me regardless of the size, because I'm between sizes on it. For example, I use large on the LT, but neither medium nor large fits right on the FX.

I guess in summary, it wouldn't surprise me if some pillow masks fit and others don't end up working, no matter what you do.

Sticky back Velcro works well--only use the "hook" side--on the back, facing in.
A little goes a long way, the adhesive "sets" as time passes.
I tack stitch mine in place; others staple it for a couple of days.
Staples can be removed after that. Thread can stay in.
