Make sure you manage your leaks. As far as your question. The S9 elite and the S9 Autoset is the same machine but the Elite blows straight cpap air (only). The Autoset will allow you to use the machine in cpap mode or autoset mode. The autoset mode will spend the night at a preset low pressure, and ramp up to treat an apnea event.... then go back down once the apnea event is taken care of. Most folks here use the autoset mode. I switch back and forth. My numbers are the same for either mode, so I try to see which one I feel better with. You can use both modes with the autoset. I didn't realize the difference was $1000! I would buy the autoset for a couple of hundred dollars more, but I don't think I would for $1000. Have you checked around for better prices (cpap.com)?

Where are you located Walking Zombie? There is a slight price difference here in the US between the AutoSet and the Elite.
As Sheriff said...no where near $1000.

I have the S9 Elite, and have been very pleased with it. Only have this one machine, easy to clean , and operate. See my equipment post at the end, full face mask. Use the ResMed software on my computer to read the SD card, went from 44 AH , down to seven AH. Started in October 2012 with this equipment, getting very good results.

Dumb question, but what about the voltage difference?

Machines are multi-voltage, you only need a power plug adapter or you can get an S8 power cord to use instead the one comes with the machine from US

Thanks sol. I didn't realise they were multi voltage.

I've just checked secondwinds site, I cannot believe howcheap they are compared to Australian used machines. Eben with the lunatic postage charges it still works out cheaper!

Were in Oz? And when do you need the machine? I'm guessing your on one of the $100/mo rental plans for now where they discount if you buy but you already own a mask or two.

If basic CPAP doesn't work for you, Auto should work better. If your problems get worse, the auto will work better. Get a full data machine since you will need that info sometime. You can also print out your data for your sleep doctor without going to the CPAP store (DME in Americanspeak)

The ones you buy in Australia are made in Sydney and the ones from the US are made in Singapore. I find the Aussie made ones don't have the "bird chirp" or "cooing" noise problems so if you are a very sensitive sleeper, the slightly higher quality machines might be worth it. But for most people here, they have been trying to sleep through a snoring freight train in their room for years so a small sound isn't a problem and it is $1000.

If you can wait a bit, stlmark tends to have very nice machines new for about $600 or so including shipping from time to time.

If your short of cash and concerned about ordering via the USA, there are few of us around here who can help. I'm in Melbourne
on the Lilydale line if your local.

The Fisher and Paykel, Phillips Respironics and Resmed are all happy with Australian power (240VAC 50Hz going to 265 on a good day).
The cable sol has mentioned can be found at jb hi-fi, office works, older k-marts, apple and other local shops and is know as an "IEC figure 8" or more likely, "Figure 8 cable that isn't a computer cable" when talking to the guy at Dick Smith who will want $15 for the thing. You can also use a cheap travel adapter.

I know several Aussies who have bought machines from secondwindcpap.com and totally happy with their purchases.

I figured you were not in the US when you mentioned the price difference.
You can buy new open box S9 Autoset for less than the Elite in Australia...down side to this would be warranty service but you can buy a spare cheap machine to get you by while returning the machine to secondwind for warranty problems and still be money ahead. Returns for warranty service are rare though.
You would of course need to figure out how to setup the machine yourself but that is super easy to do.

BTW...I bought the S9 VPAP here in the US and it wasn't made in Singapore. I don't think that all US supplied machines are made in Singapore. We have Autoset users here on the forum with machines made in Australia.

Tim thank you for your offer. I'm on the other side of the black spur from you, in Alexandra. At the moment I'm renting from the Austin hospital for a one off fee of $80 (one privelige of having a HCC). I've got the machine indefinately, its just a base model that only gives hours used. But for the price, I won't complain

Hmm I wonder if there should be an aussie users section on this board so we can whinge about how expensive cpap stuff is, and now that the $AUD has dropped below parity, we can moan even more

There are few people around here (say Lilydale) that are looking at maybe having a support group but I have no idea how that is going to happen without one of them organising things. I think they have a room near a train station so far.
