My apologies to the OP for taking this thread off course.

If you or anyone else are interested in educating yourself about the topic (a topic which even many health care professionals are confused about), here are two good links to get started:

So if I experience withdrawal when I stop my chronic pain meds in your book I'm an addict, but if I experience withdrawal when I stop my blood pressure or antidepressant medications that isn't addiction? You could not be more wrong on this one.

Are you folks dependent on getting the last word in on this thread or addicted to it?

khauser is right again!

American Society of Addiction Medicine wrote:Public Policy Statement: Definition of Addiction

Short Definition of Addiction:

Addiction is a primary, chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory and related circuitry. Dysfunction in these circuits leads to characteristic biological, psychological, social and spiritual manifestations. This is reflected in an individual pathologically pursuing reward and/or relief by substance use and other behaviors [such as trying to get the last word in an internet forum debate. km] .

Addiction is characterized by inability to consistently abstain, impairment in behavioral control, craving, diminished recognition of significant problems with one’s behaviors [such as trying to get the last word in an internet forum debate. km] and interpersonal relationships, and a dysfunctional emotional response. Like other chronic diseases, addiction often involves cycles of relapse and remission. Without treatment or engagement in recovery activities, addiction is progressive and can result in disability or premature death.

this thread has taken a drastic turn in a direction i wish that it had not sigh. None of you can deny that with benzos or narcotic pain management there is a huge potential for addiction. Does that mean that everyone who takes them will be no it does not, a lot of people are dependent on them for their day to day ability to function. That said this thread has veered way off topic, can we all try to move back to the original purpose of this thread? if not mods feel free to lock it.

You know you don't have to follow the advice of anyone posting here?

So where are you in your thinking about how to manage your case?

BTW, it is rare for a thread to get locked here unless things get really nasty.
