Extra Masks

Does anyone have a suggestion for selling/donating masks that "didn't work"?

I have been using CPAP for 1 year now. Due to my VERY small features, I have had a terrible time getting a mask to fit. I have 3 masks that I tried, used once or twice or maybe a week, and then packed away to try something else.

I would like to sell (for a discounted price) or donate to a charitable org. Any ideas as to how to do either of these?

I would betcha that the FDA has masks labeleld as "Single patient use only" units, that are therefore, unable to be sold or conveyed to anyone other than the original user legally, even though we all know that they could well be cleaned or gas sterilized.

Its a noble idea, but I'm afraid that its doomed to regulatory failure.

You might want to post what you have on the thread to cut down nonproductive conversations.

I have been doing this a month or two and haven't tried all the ones I want to nor have I built up a pile yet.

All: I would be interested in a ComfortFull 2 (full face) in size small, if anyone has one they are not using.

Diane-- I also have very small features/face. So I'm curious which mask/masks DID work for you. Of course, learning this may be a bit masochistic for me because I don't think I'm suited for a nasal system, but I'd still appreciate the info to use if my situation changes. Thanks.

I think the whole "only one person can use a mask" thing is a bit ridiculous given that the sleep labs can clean/disinfect/sterilize and then reuse a mask/interface something like 15 times before replacing the nasal pillows.

How about donating them to the sleep lab or DME provider? The one I went to works with a very diverse bunch of patients, and right now I am waiting for a ComfortLite 2 to come in. They loaned me a Comfort Lite in the meantime.

I am FOREVER thankful to ResMed for their 30 day mask/interface return policy. When I returned it to my DME provider, the respiratory therapist told me that it would be used by the sleep lab. I really liked that mask, but not waking up ~10 times a night to fix leaks. How is one supposed to know what works unless one has tried them for at least a week?

Don't feel bad...neither did I. I was like, "How did Linda know that???" I read too quickly and miss things sometimes. Not a good habit.

Caroline,

Currently I am using a Profile Lite, petite. It is still too big and the gel makes my face break out but I can certainly sleep with it. In addition, I sometime use a swift but it aggrivates my allergies (even with the heated humidifier). The other problem is that I do move around quite a bit and so the mask shifts and causes leaks which wake my husband.

I have ordered a ComfortLite 2. I'll post results as soon as I can.

hi diane--

did you try a small shallow size pillow on your activa? i just switched from regular small to small shallow on my UMFF, and it seems to help a lot.

Caroline.....yes, the Activa is a small, shallow. Unfortunately, it covers half my face instead of just my nose.

When I was at the DME, I told him to think 12 year old when considering my face size. He corrected me...said I needed to think infant! My nose is VERY small and the bridge is almost flat. I have fun buying glasses too!

The ProfileLite in Petite does fit although I have to remove the spacer on the forehead. It digs in so much that it leaves an indentation. The problem is that the gel drives me crazy.

I posted a reply last week when you first posted this but for some reason I couldn't log in so you may not have known who the poster was. If you still have it I would be interested in buying, begging for or being eternally grateful to have the Comfort Curve. I can't get a new mask until August and although the Swift with nasal pillows is not uncomfortable, I can see with my handy dandy new software that it's not helping much either. I don't have extremely small features but I do have a small head and the Mirage straps go right over my eyes up the side of my face. Also my Lab decided that the headpiece would be fun to carry around and cuddle and take a tentative chew on. It fell from the shower bar when i washed it and she's very quick. I can still use but can't do much adjusting for fear of tearing it where the pillows attach. What did you find that you did like and that fit?
