My DME actually discouraged me from getting a humidifier! Luckily I am better informed than him, and since my insurance wouldn't cover it anyway, I just went ahead and bought it on my own. And no, he has never slept a night with a CPAP. I asked him. He laughed and admitted that he tried once, but he threw it off after a few hours and never tried again. No comment.

Thanks for the summary, DME-guy. I wish you were my DME!

Alas...

In my case, my dr. prescribed heated humidifier and DME brought it to me, but insurance rejected payment for it. They needed a letter indicating "medical necessity," and it was finally approved after 4 1/2 mo.

DME_Guy, thanks for your excellent, informative posts. It's nice to see a viewpoint that's looking over both sides of the fence at the same time. CPAP users who are in your hands are lucky indeed.
