New to Nasal Pillows - Help!

Post by Michelle P » Tue Apr 30, 2013 7:57 pm

Well, I am now full circle in 4 months. I started out with a full face mask. Almost 2 weeks ago I attended a CPAP clinic and the DME respresentative said to save my nose from all my issue,. I needed to start using the Resmed Swift FX mask that I received at my titration study. I have been using the mask since 4/18/13 and things are going well.

So I am interested in hearing from the nasal pillow wearers about how to keep my nostrils from getting sore and any other suggestions anyone believes would be useful

Don't tighten that top strap too tight.
Also, get some Lansinoh ointment and apply a little to the nostrils. It helps with the tenderness.
At most the nasal pillows should only cause minor tenderness...anything else and the strap is too tight or the wrong size nasal pillow is being used.
The most common error...people tighten the top strap too tight pulling up the end of the nose a bit...we call that piggy nose...I think you can understand why. Loosen the top strap one or two notches if you look in the mirror and you have visions of pig noses.

I'm using the Swift FX and loving it. Someone posted either instructions or a video, I forget which, on this mask. My straps are so lose they are practically falling off, especially the one on top of my head. I put the ointment that Pugsy was talking about in my nose, put on the mask, get in bed & get comfy, hook up my hose and kind of pull outward on the pillows until the air has been blowing in a couple of seconds and I just release it. Instant seal & it stays that way all night. Don't push it in, that will make your nose sore.
