On my Respironics heated humidifier....
They mean it, apparently
I always look at such mandates with skepticism... well, I overfilled it last night. I was extremely tired and REALLY overfilled it, to about 4 mm below the exhaust port. I was halfway asleep when I remembered that the resevoir was bone-dry.
See where this is going?
Put the mask on... laid down... turned the unit on. There's a 5-10 second wait (this is on the Respironics Bipap Auto... is there any auto-on feature??).
Suddenly I heard all kinds of loud burping noises and then I was caught in a monsoon.
Apparently the intake air created some waves which ran right into the outflow port. Et voila! It was like a wave jumped up and bit my snorkel
I thought it was funny, at least

You bet. Put the mask on and inhale into it about 3 times. The machine turns on automatically. It is delayed to, so, I turn mine on first and then put the mask on and it starts up. I don't think it is a feature you can turn off either. I would have to look at the book to be sure.

Bi-Pap for 17 years now. Rx 12/8 and using a Resmed AirCurve 10 SAuto Bipap Auto.
Hmm... I'll break out the manual. Perhaps it's a technician-set function, as it doesn't auto-on for me... including if I take the mask off while the BiPAP is running. I get the alarm beep (wish I could turn that higher...) and after maybe 15s the air shuts off, but the beep persists. I have to manually turn the machine off, wait a few seconds then turn it back on to get more air.
Odd...
Odd...

to enable the auto-on on my apap it has to be done in the setup menu, i would think it would be similar on your machine, it takes some doing to make it turn on sometimes, i have to cover the entrainment valve on my mask and inhale sharply a few times and it will kick on most of the time.

Get Blown!
On my auto bipap, I turn the "heat" on for the humidifier and put the mask
on...I have low air pressure, then it "starts" with my programmed air...the
Apria tech turned the "beeper" off for me. I am so deaf I hardly heard it,
but the wife sure did.
I use the Mirage Swift and tighten it down fairly tight. It works for me. The
more I wear it, the more I like it. I am even sleeping on my side now. The
next trick is to lay on my stomach...my preferred position before "old age"
set in. If I get much of an air leak it wakes the wife and she lets me know
about itjavascript:emoticon(':?')
Confused
I "loop" my hose so water can't get to my head. If I took all the water in the
humidifier and poured it in the hose, I don't think it could get to my head...
I may be wrong...but in the morning I hold the end of the hose towards the
floor and no water comes out. But I also do NOT exceed the "fill here line"
and my heater is on "2". What number is your heater on?
I don't have the clinician's manual yet, should get it Tuesday, so I don't know about the "auto on" feature. And in the set up manual, it seems there is a blurb telling us to put the machine lower than our head to prevent the "rain out" feature. Putting your unit in a drawer will keep it from falling on the floor and below your head...Rested Gal or someone figured that one out and I copied it. My hose still loops downward before coming up to me.

dllfo,
The Aura Headrest nasal pillows work well for stomach sleepers, plus the pillows themselves are softer than the Swift. If you have the extra bucks or you can wait 6 months until insurance will pay for another interface, you might try the Aura.
There is no sleeping position that the Aura won't accommodate.

Thanks for the tip on the mask. I only know the two I have of course, and did
not want to "go broke" buying a bunch .....I do need to check with my insurance
about replacements. I was told any DME under $2000 does NOT require an
authorizaton, but usually a prescription. Soooooooo I wonder how a mask
fits into that??
I will find out and that sounds like it will be my next mask. Softer than the swift and if it is comfortable enough to sleep on my stomach, I am ready.
I am in the middle of trying to get MyEncore to work. I have the .net 1.1 that
it requires, but it doesn't seem to find it. Odd. I will keep playing with it.
Thanks again....Dave

dllfo,
True a prescription is not required to purchase any mask, but will your insurance company pay for it?
Tricare will pay for one mask every 6 months (2 per prescription). A new prescription for a mask is required every year.

heheh, yeah...been there, done that. With the same wild reaction inside the water chamber that you got. I'm glad you posted that. Might save someone else from getting drenched.Regnad wrote:On my Respironics heated humidifier....
