Moving SleepyHead and ResScan data to a new computer
Moving SleepyHead and ResScan data to a new computer
As the subject says, I'm moving to a new PC and would like to save the data I've accumulated so far (about 8 months) from the old PC. I've been using both programs trying to decide which I like better.
Anyway, moving from old Windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I've found SH files in My Documents > SleepyHeadData > Profiles > me > ResMed_(serial#) that I assume I can move to a corresponding location on the Win7 PC.
ResScan is a little more cryptic to me. Can anyone offer any suggestions?
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Moving SleepyHead and ResScan data to a new computer
You've found the SleepyHead trick and there is a similar one for ResScan but I haven't done it so I don't remember where that file is but others here have and hopefully someone will chime in.
It's been discussed on the forum here before and that's how I learned about it but didn't save the thread so I have no idea where that thread is and this forum search engine will likely give tons of hits unless I know the exacting wording...which I don't.

Pugsy,
Thanks for the reply. I copied the resmed_ folder to the new PC, but SH doesn't find the data. Is there a trick there?

I'm a Mac guy...but did you point Sleepyhead to the "New Location" ?

Re: Moving SleepyHead and ResScan data to a new computer
If it was me I would then just keep a few printed results of data from the past and start over from scratch with the new computer. On this computer, that I use now, I have results going back 2.5 years. However, I rarely go back to check past results. In addition, with SleepyHead Statistics, if I made one printed copy it would automatically show the data going back to the first SH date.

Re: Moving SleepyHead and ResScan data to a new computer
Okay, I have never tried this but this is what I would try and in theory it should work.
Replace the new computer's SH folder in My Documents with the old computer's SH folder found in My documents.
You may still need to create a new location and point the new SH to the root drive letter again to import.
SleepyHead should then put the new data in the old folder. Crossing my fingers here. I don't have a second working computer to try it on at the moment.
If it doesn't work...let me know and I will see if I can get the old computer fired up and give it a try. It won't connect to the internet...so I would have to put SH on disc to get it installed first.
So try the "easy" way first and see if we get have some dumb luck.

Re: Moving SleepyHead and ResScan data to a new computer
I think you are right. I had to do this last week. If you download the files on the new computer sh won't recognize them. If you go to import and then ask it to import the files you downloaded sh should recognize and use them. It worked for me anyway. I thought I had lost them all but through luck, stumbled on to it.Pugsy wrote:Okay, I have never tried this but this is what I would try and in theory it should work.

Re: Moving SleepyHead and ResScan data to a new computer
Thanks for all the ideas, everyone. I think I'll wait until tomorrow when my mind is a little fresher and will let you know how it goes. If it fails, I'll probably just go with the suggestion of starting over from 0. That's probably not a bad idea.
Thanks,
Dave

Re: Moving SleepyHead and ResScan data to a new computer
I can't get to the old sick computer right now anyway...it's in the bedroom and hubby is asleep and I would have to turn on the lights and all that to get it...he has to get up in 4 hours to go to work...so I don't want to bother him.
If I don't forget between now and the morning I will check out my theory tomorrow morning first thing..
