Encore Pro v. 1.6i Installation Instructions

Post by hairnet » Fri May 26, 2006 5:54 pm

Just received my EncorePro v. 1.6i software and the Respironics Smart Card Reader. In the box with the Smart Card are these USB Card Reader/Writer Installation Instructions which I have not seen in other posts on the forum.
1. Insert the EncorePro installation CD into your CD drive
2. If the EncorePro installation starts automatically, close the installation by clicking the "X" at the bottom right-hand corner of the window.
3. Right-click the "Start" button on you desktop. The left-click on "explore"
4. Left-click on your CD icon. Then right-click on "explore"
5. Double-click on "Smart Card Readers"
6. Double-click on "Setup"
7. The installation program will now begin. Follow the screen prompts as they appear for further guidance on installing your USB DT-3500 card reader/writer.
8. When the software drive installation is complete you may connect your USB card reader/writer to your computer. Your computer will automatically recognize the new device.

In reading the post by Derek on how to install EncorePro, it does not seem to follow these instructions. Am I misinterpreting something on one of the sets of instructions. I don't want to have a problem so will hold off installing until I hear from someone more knowledgeable than I am.
Thanks for your help.

The only thing I can say is, when Derek talked about installing, Encore Pro, 1.6i version, didn't exist. It would have been hard to guess how to install something that wasn't written.

In the world of software it's possible to write software that will install correctly by just putting the software in a cd drive and walk away. Too bad Encore Pro isn't written like that. I would follow the instructions to install the program. the sad thing is if it doesn't work they don't support it. I haven't got that version, so I can't tell you a thing except that if it doesn't work maybe someone here can help you get it straight.

It's always best to back up your files before so you can be ready for trouble, afterwards is too late. Jim

Thanks for the reply.
Just noticed in the box with the EncorePro software are instructions for installing the EncorePro software but no mention of the Smart Card. Nothing in those instructions refers to the above mentioned instructions for installing the Smart Card so now I am really confused as to what I should do.
Hope you experts out there can help me.
Thanks

Sorry I didn't get your first post, I do now. You install Encore Pro, Then you install the software for the card reader, without the card reader being connected. I think they say the reader software in on the CD, but you can't use autorun for it, you have to use windows explorer to get to the file.

I can't help with that because I don't know how they set up their directory, I do know the file is over 6 meg in size. If you can't locate it on the cd, you can get it on the 2Factor's web site (Google), Go to the page for the DT-3500 Sliding and postal reader, in the lower right is the reader software marked for Encore Pro reader, like I say it's a little over 6 meg. After you run the installer, plug the readed into a fully powered USB port, and windows should find it. Jim

I have V 1.6.22 and database 11.9
2006 Respironics, Inc. and its affiliates

What is the difference between 1.6.22 and 1.6i ???

I bought mine a week or so ago from our hosts. I followed Derek's instructions and installed everything ok.

I did NOT use Internet Explorer, I just used the CDs, in the order suggested.

Installing Software is like pushing a rope uphill.
I have Encore Pro 1.8.65 but could not find it listed
under software.

I LOVE the SV.

Please be patient with me as maybe I'm not getting the right information to you. I have 2 CD's. One is the SmartCard Reader/Writer CD Version 1.0 from Respironics. The other is the EncorePro CD Version 1.6i.
In the box with the SmartCard Reader were the instructions that I posted in my first message. They say I should insert the EncorePro CD and if it starts installing to click the "X" at the bottom right hand corner of the window, etc. etc. This is where I am confused as that does not seem to follow either Derek's instructions or the instructions on EncorePro Box.
I may not be making this very clear and I really do appreciate your replies. Possibly I will have to get more help here locally before I proceed.
Thanks again.

Encore Pro has to install first, I can't understand why they would want you to stop AutoRun for Encore Pro.

But if the drivers for the smart card readers are on the same Cd as Encore Pro, I can see why they want AutoRun stopped as it would just try to reinstall Encore Pro. by shutting down the reinstall, you could go to your file manager, (Windows Explorer) and find out where they hid the file.

The file may be on the second CD, and you would need Windows Explorer to hunt it out. I don't have the CD's so I can't tell you the file name they used, but the size of the file needed is over 6 Meg in size and the one on the 2factorsweb site will probably work. Jim

You have a CD with driver software for the smart card reader. You do not need that CD. You can use it if you want.

You have a CD with Encore Pro. It ALSO has driver software on it that you can access. Believe it or not, some people might want to use Encore Pro without the smart card reader. No, I don't understand why myself.

First You install Encore Pro - if you try and install the special reader software first it will whine.

You then close the window that encore pro puts up from autorun, go to My Computer and RIGHT CLICK on the CD - and select explore - then follow those instructions.

THEN AND ONLY THEN do you plug in the reader - and some of us have found that hubs do not work for us. Before changing the software around in the face of errors, plug the reader directly into the computer.

The software from Mako's site DOES NOT WORK, not for me, anyway. Don't bother to download it - if you do, you should uninstall it. (It might work for some people, but I tried it - I was trying everything because of the hub issue - and Encore Pro would not even recognize the card reader until I uninstalled everything and reinstalled it in the order that they specified). Only use the software on the CD - it is a different version and Encore Pro expects the version that is on the CD that came with it.

Okay I took the big leap tonight and got EncorePro and the SmartCard Reader loaded on my computer and it seems to be working fine. I will have to study a bit more to understand all the reports. As yet I have not loaded My Encore but will attempt that tomorrow. Thank you all for your help.
