Lookin For Sugestions Y'all
Ok, this is gonna be a new experience for me now that i'm a VA used to be.
Titration done. Doc says he wants me on straight cpap (10) . The DME doesn't even want to hear my- i'd like to have the Aeiomed Headrest, shot that down. so i have to go in for a mask fitting .don't know a thing about current nasal pillow masks ?
also said my M series is old & i need to get a new one....No wonder medicare is going broke.
if they do try to talk me into a newer machine , they say they want me to have a modem hooked up on this one. does anyone want to offer an opinion on the current models & what to shy away from ?
thanks,
tim

Sounds like they want to hold onto you by the short hairs with that modem.
I've heard the headrest is out of production.
I've been using the Swift LT with great success for several years now but there are several nasal pillow models to choose from.
As for machines, you'll get lots of suggestion on that too. Just make sure the machine is an APAP and capable of monitoring useful (efficacy) data and not just compliance data which their suggestion for a modem seems to be their focus.

Tim,
Is that M Series your only machine? I was thinking you had a bi-level machine, too. If you DO have a bi-level, it can also be set to CPAP mode (single pressure).
There are lots of machines available for "cheap" these days (if you're paying out-of-pocket). Keep watching for some being sold on the forum by trusted members. CPAP(dot)COM has good prices if you want to go that way.
Basically, there are TWO which are considered "top of the line" and that's the PR System One Auto (60 Series) and the ResMed AutoSet S9. As you know, you can always use an APAP in straight pressure.
Best wishes,
Den

Dunno if this DOC is gonna go for the APAP, although that's what i have been using since day one.... Now he says i should be on a straight pressure ?.......It's gonna be the "my cold dead fingers thing" with my current machinesDreamStalker wrote:Sounds like they want to hold onto you by the short hairs with that modem.

Hey Den,
you know i don't think i even checked the system one Bi PAP to see if it would do straight CPAP ? good point.
This is going to be strictly medicare & AARP.
I tell ya after switching back to the smart card , it took me awhile to learn how to pullup the Analyzer Program...i Loved James software !

Just tell him you will gladly use CPAP mode on an APAP ... but also let him know that as long as any cash is coming out of your pocket, your best value is to get an APAP even if using in CPAP mode. Remember, these docs are supposed to work for YOU!deerslayer wrote:Dunno if this DOC is gonna go for the APAP, although that's what i have been using since day one.... Re: Lookin For Sugestions Y'all
This is the only place I have seen that still has some Aeiomed Headrest full mask setup.
Cpap.com has the nasal pillows though.
If you really like it, you can still stock up but it would be out of pocket expense.
http://www.bestcpapprice.com/Aeiomed-He ... _p_94.html
Skinner's old program won't work with the new software and the old software won't work with the new machines...sorry... but there is software that is easy to use and available for the new Respironics machines as well as the new ResMed machines.
You can check out my signature to get a glimpse.
With the new Respironics PR System One machines..avoid anything that has a model number below 450 because full data machines start with model 450.
If the DME gives you a bunch of grief and you can swing the cash STLMark has a PR System One BiPap Pro (model 660) that he would like to see gone from his house. Not an Auto BiPap though.

The new 60 series heated hose machines are pretty sweet if you like lots of humidity and a cold bedroom...like me.

Yeah I knew those folk wouldn't accept Medicare so that's why I said out of pocket.
Thinking about the Swift FX nasal pillows? It was my main mask until I recently changed to the Tap Pap.
I did get a chance to try the Headrest a while back just for grins. I was very pleasantly surprised at how comfortable it was.
I thought I wouldn't care for it but it really was rather nice and I can see why some people really liked it.
Unfortunately nothing out there like it unless you look at the ComfortLite2 which is sort of similar.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/Comfor ... -Mask.html
The Aloha is a nice nasal pillow mask too. It ranked real close to my Swift FX when I tried it.
The Pilairo...I liked but the one size fits all head strap doesn't do so well with larger heads. My head is small and it was almost too snug for me.

Re: Lookin For Sugestions Y'all
I have to agree with them on this. You just can NOT be sure that a mask is a good fit without having your set pressure connected to it while fitting it to your face. I'm an RT in a DME, and I promise you, this is a legit request by them. Good luck with the new experience. And I'm with everyone else... use the M-Series until it dies. Nothing wrong with it. Remember, nobody can force you to buy anything.deerslayer wrote:They want me to bring in my machine when i get fitted for a mask, so i have air at pressure........These Sneeky DME Guys

Re: Lookin For Sugestions Y'all
As long as the M is running, you have time to work on getting YOUR choice of machine.
Just remember, don't let the machine out of your sight!
I wouldn't trust these characters not to drop a nail in your tranny if they get a chance.

Re: Lookin For Sugestions Y'all
Bring your M-Series with you and have them check the pressure. If it's in spec they can hardly provide a good reason NOT to keep using it, other than to pay their loans!
Sounds like you already have two capable systems, so you even have a backup. There's no way I would be forced to buy another machine in that situation ... not unless and until there was a reason *I* wanted it.
Oh, and then it would most definitely be the machine I spec'd...

Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.
