Bad switch on ResMed S8

Post by maestrogn » Thu Mar 21, 2013 2:19 pm

The main switch (the one used to turn it on and off) on my ResMed S8 has virtually ceased to work.

After I finally got the machine to turn on, I left it and am unplugging and replugging it to use it each night.

Two questions:

-- Will merely interrupting the AC supply on a regular basis harm the machine or its functions?

-- Is there a way I can replace the switch inside the machine? It feels like a simple on/off push toggle under a plastic cap.

Thanks for your help

I vote for no, it will not hurt.. if you were recording data on a card, it might matter, but not the S8. Easiest thing to do is buy a switched extension cord and use that. I keep my S8 for an office machine and like it quite a lot. earl

Does the S8 have an auto on/auto off?

I don't have the S8, but I've left EVERY xPAP machine I've ever owned on, always. That doesn't mean blowing air ... it means the logic was on.

Is that not possible with the S8?

I very much doubt that unplugging and then re-plugging it in would harm it any worse than turning it on and off with a switch. Either one is going to "shock" the electronics with spikes, etc ... but they're equivalent...

Call these people, they might sell you a switch, if you handy and can replace it yourself. http://www.acbio.com/

Yes, most S8 machines have "Smart start" as an option, which will turn the blower on and off.

Look at the "setup manuals" on apneaboard.com to figure out how to set smartstart on.
