Is it OK to offer extra equipment here?

Post by TangledHose » Wed Mar 13, 2013 11:34 am

Hi

New to the board and have a quick question......I notice that some people on here are offering slightly used or extra equipment such as machines and masks, I was recently kicked off another apnea board for offering a mask that I tried and only used for less than two hours. Before I make the same offer on this board I want to make sure it is OK to do so?

Sure you can offer it.
Word of warning though...we are a bunch of tightwads here and if you are trying to sell something for close to what you paid for it then you won't get a bite.
Especially since you are a newbie here. We have had some scammers here so we tend to be a bit leery about someone who only comes here to sell something.

We do a lot of exchanging here...helps people try new things without having to rob a bank to pay for things.

thanks for the reply Pugsy - - I completely understand your statements. I have been a CPAP user now for about 7 years and it has always been a struggle to find the right/best mask that is liveable and not too leaky. I recently switched to APAP from CPAP and it's been the best move I have ever made.....I know a lot of users here prefer the resmed s9, but I am using the Fisher & Paykel Icon Auto due to it's relatively small size with it's built in humidifier - - great if you have to travel with your machine.

So at any rate just wanted to let you know that I am not here for the sole purpose of selling stuff - - I just recently tried a new mask and it just didn't work for me so rather than let it sit and collect dust I thought someone else may like to try it at a substancial discount. I'll post a new thread with the details.

There's a board that will summarily kick you off? No warnings? Wow. I don't think I can publicly say what I think about that without insulting someone...

You don't know? That's the board where the moderators enforce every little rule they have (and they have a ton of them).
I don't go there...I call it the Nazi Gestapo board.
I did join it initially 4 years ago...said "hi" "I'm new"...yada yada yada...not one person said "Hi" back to me.
Cold atmosphere...that along with all the rules and regulations...I knew real quickly that I wouldn't fit in so didn't go back.

Which one? apneasupport.org
Hosted by the American Sleep Apnea Assoc
which is why they have so many rules and regulations...but doesn't explain why so many grouchy hateful people.

You see, "I" would have thought it was the apnea board.

They have rules & rules & rules AND you can't link to anything directly.

I read a couple of very stale posts on apneasupport.org, but never stayed because of that.

Yeah, they have some rules but nothing like the "other" board.
The apneaboard has ways to get the software and clinical manuals and all that.... other the the annoying ban about links they are fairly liberal. I never understood the link ban thing...but that's the way the owner wants it so I guess it's his sandbox so we play by his rules...minor compared to the Gestapo board.

Post information about clinical manuals and software and looking at your own data or anything remotely like your having an idea to change something in the settings on the "other" board and your post will disappear before you can blink your eyes and you get a nastygram in your message box. Do it too many times and you will be banned from the forum.
They are big into "give it time" and "your doctor is God and walks on water and is never wrong"...

Aren't they 49er? She knows about them first hand....

Our own beloved JediMark writes in his blog about being banned by them some time back. (Sorry Mark, I realize we don't "own" you but I hope you hear that as a term of endearment. )

I failed to read their forum rules so it's totally my fault (My Bad) -- so the rule I violated was offering to sell a mask that is technically considered a "By Perscription Only" product, so the next time I went to log on I got a big red message that I had violated a high level rule and I was "Nuked" for life! My Bad

I totally get where they are coming from with that rule, but the funny thing is I found a website that sells brand spankin' new masks at very good prices with no perscription required, so I figured I'd sell the mask I tried and didn't get a long with since I didn't have to provide a perscription to obtain it in the first place. Oh well.....like I said "My Bad"

the forum that "Nuked" me was ApneaBoard if you really need to know ;+)

Live and Learn

P.S. It wasn't the mask pictured in my Avatar
