RemStar Auto Error?

Post by G Man » Fri May 19, 2006 6:46 am

Last night went to bed, put mask on, machine started up fine. About 20 minutes later wife wakes me up and says "Fix your machine!". The thing is beeping and the lighted buttons are flashing, Ex: Beep-Flash, Beep-Flash, Beep-Flash...... I was Groggy but the display may have displayed "C-1".
I put the unit into clinician mode and all the settings were good. The patient disconnect alarm was off, set to "0". Reset machine and went back to sleep but it did it again, in 1/2 hour. I switched the machine from Apap w/Cflex#2- 11>17cm to straight Cpap with Cflex#2 @ 12cm and it ran fine all night. What might this alarm be for?

Error code C-1 on a Remstar Auto I believe is a Smart Card write error.

The card is in upside down or is corrupt and should be reprogrammed.

Check out your smart card.

Yep! The C-1 error is a Smart Card error. Some of these machines seem prone to this error. I got the error sometimes when re-inserting the Smart Card. After a few weeks I'd had enough of it, and simply returned the machine for another new one. The new machine didn't exhibit the problem.

Try removing and re-inserting the Smart Card ten or twenty times and see if you can duplicate the C-1 error. That should tell you if it's a card slot problem. You could also try cleaning the contacts on the top of the Smart Card with a pencil eraser to ensure good electrical contact is made.

Is your machine new? If so, I'd recommend returning it pronto for another machine. (Don't let anyone talk you into fixing this problem on a new machine.) If not new, then get another Smart Card and see if that fixes the problem. If all that fails, then you might be at the mercy of the factory repair folks.

Regards,
Bill

Thanks for the replys. Machine is a new one. The data from last night was all fine, the compliance data showed the two inturuptions from the alarms.
Guess I'll just monitor it and see what happens. If I was to return it as defective I think it might be a good idea to evan further damage it somehow internally so it doesn't even power-up, just to make sure I get a new unit. The DME might say "you don't need the smart card feature for your treatment anyway". Any ideas on what to cut inside to disable the unit?
I'm sure alot of little inconspicuous things could be done Dr. Kavorkian style....
