Unusual Readings?

Post by questor1 » Mon Mar 11, 2013 6:33 am

When I checked my readings this morning there were some strange anomalies in the charts. The first one is the one hour gap in the readings. I'm assuming that was due to the change in daylight savings time. If so, the program was off by one day. The next is the second event from the left. It goes right off the chart and a mouse over indicates it was an obstructive event lasting 66 seconds. This is the first time I've seen anything where near that length of time. Is it likely I actually stopped breathing for more than a minute? The third is the strange shape of the AHI graph shortly after that event. I'm wondering if someone can shed some light on them. My guess is that all are related to time change. Remember that ResMed's "day" runs from noon until noon.

I have a similar weird shape on my reports..on the AHI line as well as the pressure line. It's like a double back.
It's related to the time change.
For some reason the S9 gets all weird with the time change. Part of it is when we change the clock and part of it just doesn't make any sense sometimes.

When did you make the time change on the clock? I made mine Sat night 8 PM and the overlap showed up yesterday morning's report at about 5 AM.

I don't want to play "my apnea was longer than your apnea", but an episode of 66 minutes is entirely possible. I once had an epicode one minute 44 seconds on a sleep test. I wonder when they would have woken me up!

Oh...the 66 second event...it is possible but given the wacko data from likely the time change I don't know if I would get all that excited about it. Besides not much you can do about it now anyway. I still have an occasional 45 sec event even now.
Sometimes it just happens. Maybe the event materializes without the usual warning signs like snores or FL and the machine doesn't have time to prevent it with adequate pressure increases. Once the event actually materializes the machine doesn't do anything about it. It can't...isn't designed to. It responds to snores and flow limitations trying to prevent the collapse of the airway tissues. Once the collapse actually occurs..it just sits by and does nothing till the airway opens and then it evaluates things to hopefully prevent that sort of event from happening again.

LOL! Mary, I won't be trying out for the Apnea Olympics anytime soon.

Pugsy, I didn't change the clock. I'm making the assumption that it is an automatic change with programming built into the device. The 12 noon to 12 noon day would account for it. I believe DST started at 2 AM Sunday and the gap showed up at 2 AM Monday, but if the S9 thinks it is Sunday until 12 noon on Monday, that would explain it.

Thanks all to the feedback.

When they looked up from the game of Solitaire they were playing?
When they got back from the bathroom?
... I could go on...
