Bloody noses
I have a bloody nose at least once a day - sometimes more often. I am very careful with my sinuses - using saline and vaporizers and making sure my cpap is pumping out enough moisture. . .
Last year I ended up with all kinds of tests to rule out leukemia - don't have it, so I know that's not the cause.
I have a nasal polyp, so I do use Flonaise to treat it. I know that it warns not to use if you've recently had nasal surgery as it slows or prevents healing, but I don't think it causes bloody noses.
Do any of you end up with bloody noses? Have you found the cause? Have you found a good way of preventing them? Maybe a late great symptom of just getting . .. ahem. . .older, greyer and such?

Re: Bloody noses
Heh, never mind. It is probably the flonaise, I'm calling my doctor in the morning.
Re: Bloody noses
I had the bloody nose syndrome for a while & use two different nasal sprays, Qnasl & another one- both very drying. Then I found AYR with Aloe. I apply it just inside the nostrils each evening awhile before bed. It helps to keep the inside of the nose moist. I got it @ Walmart for <$4. It smells good too.
Good luck with the Flonase.
Good luck with the Flonase.

Re: Bloody noses
Thank you, Posey, I'll pick some up tomorrow and give it a try. I didn't know that nasal sprays could be drying - but that would make sense since it has salt in it.
Re: Bloody noses
When I was on flonase and asterpro I was having nose bleeds... but on qnasl I havent had any (I'll probably have one tonight). It just burns a bit when I spray but the doctor said thats normal. He also said its ok to be on this spray longterm... what do you guys think? My thinking is any type of meds long term cant be good for you.

How is the overall humidity level in the house?

Re: Bloody noses
Eh. . .that would be a hard one - as this is an old house and different rooms are different temperatures. There are humidifiers in the master bedroom, my office, the grand foyer, and in the grand dinning - (now used as the den). The parlor is closed off. The kitchen, if I'm in there, get's a pan of water boiling.cosmo wrote:How is the overall humidity level in the house?
The master bedroom runs between 55 and 68% humidity right now with the humidifier running and no heat.
My office runs between 52% and 65% - there is a gas heater in here - humidifier is on my desk where I work. If the humidity drops lower I go to the bathroom - which is off my office and pour a hot bath which brings the humidity up to where it should be.
The grand dining (den) runs between 31% - 42% with the humidifier. This is where the wood stove is, I usually can't stay in there for very long as I'm allergic to open wood, and there is always open wood by the wood stove during the winter. We are working on changing both the humidity and the allergens in this room, currently. I usually end up either in my office or in the bedroom with the air purifier in the evenings.
Hopefully soon, the grand dining (den) will get a much larger humidifier and an air purifier.

Re: Bloody noses
Get some "Ponaris" from a drugstore. Target carries it in their pharmacy. Use just a drop or so each nostril.
It's made for dry noses. You will say goodbye to bloody noses I guarantee.

I'll look up qnasl. No, I think you're right - I don't like being on a steroid long term, but the alternative is that I can't breathe out of my nose as that polyp swells. We're bombarded with chemicals on a daily basis - there's no avoiding it even if I don't willfully ingest anything. Makes me wonder just how this human race of ours is going to mutate next.acidragon wrote:When I was on flonase and asterpro I was having nose bleeds... but on qnasl I havent had any (I'll probably have one tonight). Netjetdriver, the Target in my area does not carry it - so I looked it up on line - and got the ingredients. I can't use it, it has oil of pine in it. . .which is severe allergen for me.Netjetdriver wrote:Get some "Ponaris" from a drugstore. Target carries it in their pharmacy. Dernit.
Well. . .I did get the Ayrs in the mail today - hopefully that will help.
Re: Bloody noses
Are you using saline rinses or the saline squirts?
After cpap, my sinuses have been better. That is because I am finally taking care of them. No more blood spots inside and no more mucus coming out since. I do daily nasal rinses and keep an eye of humidity level.
When it gets too congested and I don't feel good, I will then take medicine or strong sprays. But I still do have daily congestion, just without the nose dryness and mucus.

I can't do the rinses - tried it once, will never do it again. I really do as much as I can to take care of them - have recently added the Ayr for the aloe instead of just straight saline. I think the culprit is the steroid. I think I'm going to try to wean off of it and just not go back to it and try to find some natural alternative.cosmo wrote:Are you using saline rinses or the saline squirts?

Re: Bloody noses
I get almost daily nosebleeds due to long term nasal steroid use. It thinned the membranes of one nostril. I use a saline spray with aloe daily and before I go to bed, I put a dab of beeswax based salve inside each nostril.
