SoRe NoSe

Post by katandmah » Wed Mar 06, 2013 10:51 pm

Hello All,
I am not a newbie and have great success with my CPAP machine. Lately, the outside of my nose has been very sore. It has been very dry and often has sores which prevent me for using the machine for a few a nights, which is definitely not good. I know you cant used petroleum based products as it effects the seal. Does anyone know of something I could use to fix this situation. Its very frustrating. Kind of like 2 steps forward then 3 steps back. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mary Ann

Lansinoh lanolin ointment. Found in the baby aisle of most stores (Walmart). Nursing mom's use it to prevent nipple chaffing.
It won't hurt the silicone at all. Use it 24/7 because it also helps speed up healing.

The nasal pillows shouldn't cause pain or open sores. Usually when this happens the top strap is too tight or the nasal pillows are the wrong size.

Thanks so much I thought that was the cream but wasnt sure. I am using the small size pillow. THe medium one really hurt my nose. The DME said small, but having the sores, I switched to medium thinking it was too small. That was much worse. I then tried XS for a while but that wasnt working either. My nose and nostrils are sort of small. If I loosen the straps, I get leaks when I turn my head. I do think the straps are too tight because when I wake in the morning, I have indents on my cheeks where the straps were. But I dont know how to change it without getting leaks.
Thanks,
Mary Ann

See if anything here helps with the fit.

If you look in the mirror...is your nose turned up unnaturally...we call that piggy nose. That's from the top strap being too tight. Sometimes the difference between too tight and too loose is just a notch or a 1/4 inch on that back strap.
