I have a cold

Post by Dewain » Sat Mar 02, 2013 4:29 pm

I cant wear my full face mask Im coughing to much at night have tried to contact the person who set me up with the CPAP machine but have not heard back from him yet. Not sure what else to do except wait for the cold to past so I will stop coughing so much at night.

I just got over one, but I found that I didn't cough when I was asleep. I took some cough syrup when I went to bed. Hope you feel better soon!

Over the counter meds when applicable, maybe more humidity, find your most comfortable sleep position where you have the least congestion and drink lots of water... and that's for starters. I just put "have a cold" and "have the flu" in the search engine at the upper top left of the main screen. Tons of stuff came up (no pun intended).

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Hi,

That is a major bummer. If you cannot get the CPAP stuff to work with a cough, then the next best thing is to try to sleep upright in a recliner. That will help minimize the impact of the OSA.

I seemed to get a lot of colds the year before last. I lost track after about the 10th one, and also got the flu twice. I use a nasal pillow mask, which is a big mess when your nose is running. I'd get about 2 or 3 hours of sleep before I would be, well, overflowing, and end up awake blowing my nose for an hour. It messed up my sleep enough that I'd be a zombie through the who messy affair. Funny thing...I haven't been sick since that string of about 16 months where I seemed to be getting sick all the time.

Thanks for all the info I hope last night was the worst of it Ii got up twice and had to take cough drops. The resmed S9 unit has a satelite up link that I have to mail back in 3 weeks It so I could be remotely monitored and adjustments made while I sleep and made about compliance no one has called me about not using the unit yet.

Generally...when you have a cold is when you need a full face mask. A stuffy nose will cause you to mouth breathe. With a nasal mask you will not get the proper therapy if you mouth breathe. For the cold, I was told to use an OTC antihistimine like Claritin and a OTC cough medicine. Then turn up the humidity.

Hi Dewain,

I hope you feel better.

When you get a chance, you might look into optimizing your vitamin D level. Since increasing mine to 3000IU, I haven't gotten one cold in spite of having a compromised immune system due to my difficulties with cpap treatment.

Thanks for the info on vitamin D I haven't been on here for a while because I started a plant shutdown working 12 hr shifts for the next 2 weeks. I have been trying to wear the mask but last night only had it on 2.5 hrs don't remember taking it off.

I've been sleeping pretty good I'm averaging about 5.5 hours a night with the mask on, I still haven't gotten by to get the nasal mask yet. I want to thank you all again for the tips your giving me.
