Who has or had trouble with focusing?

Post by walking coma » Sat Mar 02, 2013 2:24 pm

I've been on cpap for 5 months now and my most disturbing symptom is not being able to focus. I walk around like I'm in a daze or am drugged. I have improved since first starting cpap but progress is slow.My AHI is 0.6. It's well known that misery loves company. Has anyone else been through experience?

How long are you sleeping for each night? Are you sure you're not mouth breathing while asleep? How are your leaks, flow, etc?
Have you had things like your thyroid, blood sugar or other labs done? You shouldn't be feeling that way if your AHI is that good - maybe your BP is now too low on Cpap and should be checked...

There's always more to consider, isn't there!

How old are you?

Did you have trouble focusing before using CPAP?

Do you use glasses or other vision correction now? Perhaps your prescription has changed.

I'm wondering if now that I've been finally sleeping really well (since August), if that has caused my vision to suddenly improve.

For the last few years my prescription was steady at OD -5.50 -0.75 050 +1.50 OS -7.00 -1.00 040 +1.50, but a few months ago I found I was having trouble focusing....finally got an eye exam last month and my prescription is now OD -4.50 -0.75 040 +1.50 OS -6.75 -0.75 010 +1.50

Unfortunately, finally fixing my sleep issues hasn't made me all better. Which is disappointing, because I had kept saying that if they could fix my sleep....everything else would resolve....well, the EDS and stuff has, but some of my other problems have gotten worse. My Neuro/Sleep doctor is going to refer me to UNMC for a neuro work up next.... Like he has confirmed that I have pretty bad Peripheral Neuropathy on my right side last year, but can't figure out the cause, so can't treat it....and I think its gotten worse in the last month.

Of course, the continuing EDS after CPAP without a cause also was no further treatment....until another doctor found one....

The Dreamer.

There can certainly be fatigue and fuzzy thinking associated with sleep deprivation, especially low O2 levels, but that should go away once your therapy kicks in and fixes your sleep issues. It may happen instantly like it did for me, however it may take longer; probably not more than a few months, IMO. Perhaps you are not getting suffcient time in deep sleep? If this stretches out too long, I suggest that you should mention it to your GP and your sleep doctor. So many things could be involved: heart issues, diabetes, thyroid dysfunction, brain chemistry or a host of other problems. Please keep us posted on your findings and good luck to you.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
