Hi, I am new to CPAP (one week, doing pretty well) and new to the forum. I have a question. Does anyone have any experience with the "CPAP PRO" mask? It looks like a great design to me. I have had some minor claustrophobic reactions, with my current mask. I found this CPAP PRO on the web and it looked like it might help. Any opinions on the design, even if you haven't tried it, just based on your general CPAP experience?
The CPAP PRO website is linked below. I am going to ask both my respiratory therapist and my doctor about it this week.

I know someone who used it and said it was awful. Had gagging reflexes, sore teeth and major leakage.
My suggestion to you is to read previous posts here and see what people say about the mask they use, good points and bad. If the mask you are using is working for you for now, don't be in too big of a hurry to purchase anything you'll regret later. IMHO, people here will give you better advise than a DME or even your doctor, WE USE THE EQUIPMENT, not just prescribe it or sell it!
I personally use the Swift, it's comfortable and I can wear my glasses for reading and just remove them when I'm ready to go to sleep without having to take off the mask. Besides working very well, that is a big plus for me.

The question about CPAP PRO comes up about once a month on this forum. I've read that if you do a search on "cpappro" (all one word) you'll be able to find the threads where it was discussed. I believe I've only read of ONE person who had some success with it.....but apparently didn't use it for a long period of time.

I used it for almost a year. It's what got me back on CPAP after HORRIBLE mask and headgear from DME (I didn't know better then... I do now).
The boil and bite mouthpiece is a really cool idea. You do NOT have to clench your teeth on anything. If you make the mouthpiece correctly (very easy to do) it SNAPS onto your upper teeth. It does not fall out... EVER. Sore teeth? I can see this as a possibility. Didn't happen to me personally.
But NOISY? Good lord this thing is like wearing a jet engine on your face. The pillows don't seal well. Wait.. let me clarify that... the pillows can be made to seal.... for a few minutes. The mechanism for holding them in position is too flimsy. They'll stay roughly in position but you'll CONSTANTLY be waking up and fiddling with the pillows.
It's a GREAT idea. It's just poorly implemented. Imagine NO headgear. I am seriously considering developing a similar device that uses DOUBLE mouthpiece. Top and bottom teeth. Because it literally snaps into place, you'd no longer need a chinstrap BUT you could open your mouth if you NEEDED to. If this was outfitted with a barrel like the swift has, and a mounting system that would hold it in place properly it would be a GREAT interface. Side sleeping would not be a problem. In fact, stomach sleepers could probably do well.
Anyways... for now... don't bother with the cpappro... that's my opinion. While it served me well as far as making me more compliant, it wasn't until I got my Swift that I became 100% compliant. AND.... my wife had to actually look and see if my machine was running.

Thanks!!!
What a great forum. I think you folks just saved me $179 and some heartache on that CPAP Pro. I also learned that the Swift that I already have is very decent choice, and truthfully, I am not having too much trouble with it. It will probably just take a couple more weeks to really settle in with it. I can already see progress.
As Yardbird said, though, I do think the CPAP Pro is a great idea and I like the mods that he proposes. If anyone ever comes out with such an thing, I will likely try it.

Re: Swift
Although I keep looking for a better alternative to the Swift I have yet to find it in terms of efficacy. From being in this forum though it is clearly evident that what works for one does not necessarily work for another.
Hose management and the proper tension on the Swift barrel using the headgear seem to be the key to success with the Swift based on my experience.
Good Luck
