Nasal mask vs Nasal Prong
Nasal mask vs Nasal Prong
I switched from a Nasal Prong mask to a Full Face mask because I usually have one nostril plugged up. I am getting tired of the Full Face mask, and was wondering if a Nasal mask might work. With the Nasal Prong my stuffed up side would make me fell closed in and I would have to remove the mask. I am hoping that a straight Nasal mask might lesson this feeling and allow me to wear it.
Re: Nasal mask vs Nasal Prong
I doubt it would be different. You could also try Nasal Pillows, but again, the clogged nostril will feel the extra pressure.
This doesn't occur with the FFM?

Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.
Re: Nasal mask vs Nasal Prong
I messed up I meant to say I used a Nasal Pillow not Prong and was wondering if a change to a regular Nasal mask might help. Sorry
Re: Nasal mask vs Nasal Prong
I have heard a few people say that the pressure distribution using a nasal only mask seemed to be a bit gentler than nasal pillow.
Might depend on pressure used.
Nasal pillows shouldn't be "stuffed up inside the nose" though. Only the tiny inner cones just barely enter the nostril...maybe wrong size nasal pillow or straps too tight???
Which nasal pillow mask did you try?
You would just have to try the over the nose nasal mask to see if you felt more comfortable using it.
Any particular reason for one nostril being plugged up or is it something you have during the day too?

Re: Nasal mask vs Nasal Prong
Whats wrong with using nasal pillows with 1 clogged nostril? This is me every night.
Re: Nasal mask vs Nasal Prong
Nothing wrong with it really as long as it doesn't disturb sleep. I wake up sometimes with one nostril totally plugged up (usually the side that is "down" when sleeping on my side) and never know it is clogged up till I remove the mask.cosmo wrote:Whats wrong with using nasal pillows with 1 clogged nostril? Some people do find the pressure against the "plugged" nostril disturbing to their sleep and anything that disturbs sleep is unwanted.

Re: Nasal mask vs Nasal Prong
This used to not bother me but I think my asthma is getting worse and that plays the main role. I am going to try my old Nasal Pillow (Resmed Swift LT) tonight and see if it works. My nasal passage way seems to not be as plugged up as before.cosmo wrote:Whats wrong with using nasal pillows with 1 clogged nostril? This is me every night.
This why I thought a regular Nasal would work. My pressure is only 7.Pugsy wrote:I have heard a few people say that the pressure distribution using a nasal only mask seemed to be a bit gentler than nasal pillow.

You know it might be quite comfortable for you. Won't know unless you try it.Edgeguy wrote: This why I thought a regular Nasal would work. My pressure is only 7.
I have never been able to tolerate the over the nose thing so I can't really say how different it might feel.

Re: Nasal mask vs Nasal Prong
There are so many weird feedback mechanisms and variations in the human respiratory system, nervous system, nose, etc. that many things like masks just have to be experimented with. In particular, nose clogging seems to behave differently with each person.
I find the nasal mask seems to clear up my nostrils more than a nasal pillow mask does. I'd sort of expect it to work the other way around because of the way a nasal pillow inflates the nose.

Re: Nasal mask vs Nasal Prong
Slept almost 7 hours with my old Nasal Pillow and registered no leaks and a AHI of 0.4. If my congestion can stay this way I would love it. I really like Pillows over a Full Face mask. I still think a Nasal mask might work even when I am more congested. So I will start a new thread on varieties of Nasal masks.
