Next machine to upgrade to

Post by Jinjer » Mon Feb 25, 2013 9:49 pm

I have been using a Respironics Remstar Plus with C-flex w/heated humidifier with no smartcard. I have just gotten another one with a smartcard and reader as a back-up. I have no medical insurance so I need to get a really affordable machine. I paid $150 for each of the ones I own now. I have extra humidifier couplers and foam filters, but at some point it will be almost impossible to find them. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what would be a good machine to upgrade to in the future? Thanks for any input.

It is nice that you now have a backup machine. I think the answer to your question would change about every six months based on what used machines are selling for, what your budget is, and what new machines have come out forcing existing machines out of favor.

That being said, Respironics 50 Series machines can be found at quite a value price new or used. The heated hose thing is the latest in the 60 series but the method of treatment has not changed as far as I know. Places like secondwindcpap.com are good sources of used machines. Craig's list and watching this forum are also good sources.

Do you want to stay within the M Series models so items are interchangeable or are you able to step up to the new technology machines called PR System One models...this model is what replaced the M series?

Are you maybe wanting an M series machine that gathers full data (your plus only gathers hours of use) so that you could use that card reader to use get to the software that works with your machine...we can point you to the software (it's free) but if both your machines are the Plus models....DS 100 or 200...the only data they gather is hours of use. May not matter to you but I just wanted to tell you about what's out there.

M series machines were discontinued early 2010 but there are still lots of available supplies for it...the filters for the M series and PR S1 are interchangeable.

So what were you wanting....do you want to be able to see the data that the full data machines gather? Some people don't care.
How soon in the future are we talking about? Price range?
