Respironics REMstar Pro C-Flex + CPAP machine

Post by salton » Sat Feb 23, 2013 8:53 pm

I might be able to get one slightly used. They say it was used 3 weeks. I would like to have more options than the basic machine I have now.
Is this a good buy for 375.00?

Is it model 450 or 460? That's important...there is also a model with same name that is much older.
Does it include humidifier?

This is the model 460 which is the latest.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-sys ... chine.html

Your current machine is a 150 model.. Your 50 series humidifier won't work with a 60 series machine (that's the 460).

I think secondwindcpap.com has a 550 machine/ no humidifier..with low hours...that will work with your humidifier for $350.
The 550 is an APAP and CPAP machine combined. so like 2 machines in one..it does both modes.
Your current machine only offers CPAP mode.
They might even have a 450.

It comes with a humidifier. I have an email in to see which model it is.
After using the 150 for a bit over a week, I can see where you want more info. All it tells me is I have averaged 6.6 hours per night. I would like to be a bit more involved in my treatment. I know I have leak issues, but don;t know how bad. I wake up a couple times a night with my chinstrap around my neck and air rushing out my mouth. I could have struck a match on my tongue the other night.
I have only taken it off during the night twice out of frustration.
I do think I am getting more sleep, I wake up with no clue as to what time it is, which usually does not happen. I woke up yesterday thinking it was about 2Am and it was 530!
I have not had to fight so hard to stay awake during the day either.

It is a 450. She says it has 200 hours and was bought in Nov. of 2011. Says it has not a mark on it. It comes with the humidifier.
Sounds like it is priced close to new retail. I found one new for 399.00.
I need to scrape together a few more bucks either way, so I will keep looking and learning. Do the 450 and 550 both have the same data capabilities?
I would rally like to have leak info, as I keep waking up with air screaming past the mask. It is very difficult to sleep on my side without dislodging it.

Yes and no. They will both have the leak data you are concerned with.

The 450 is a straight cpap mode machine.
The 550 is a machine that offers both straight cpap mode and auto adjusting mode...so we commonly refer to is as an APAP machine but it actually has 2 modes of operation.

The difference in data gathered between the 450 and 550 is Flow limitation data points.
The 550 in APAP mode gathers flow limitations data points because part of it's job is to increase the pressure in response to flow limitations . Flow limitations are reductions in air flow that are likely warning signs that a collapse of the airway is maybe about to happen. So the 550 flags/scores Flow limitations.
The 450 is a straight cpap machine so it can't respond to flow limitations so Respironics decided that Flow limitations data doesn't even need to be gathered or reported on the 450 machine...so everyone gets a big 0.0 on the reports for FLs but that's a misleading number...looks like none happened but not true because the machine doesn't even gather it...there might be a truckload of FLs and a 450 won't tell you.

Flow limitation data being available isn't critical though...but sometimes is useful.

If I was going to spend over $300 on a machine for data...I would go with the $350 550 model without humidifier (you already have one) that secondwindcpap.com has if it were me.
Now if she had the 450 for $200...it looks a whole lot more attractive.
and finally that 2011 model year....if late in the year that would be better than first of the year...some changes were made in 2011 that impacted some minor features..noise level was one of them.

Noise level is crucial due to my wife. She is not adjusting as well as I am.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I think the 550 is what I need.

Well, She dropped to $325.00. I am a few bucks short even at that, but I think I will save a little more and get a 550. If I have to sleep with this thing for the next few years it might as well be as advanced as I can manage to get.

You won't regret waiting to get the 550.
If she had a 460...I could tell you how to make it work like a 550 but I can't do it with a 450.

Now that I have talked myself into the 550, she emailed me back at $250.00, Says she had that offer and turned it down, now if I dont want it she will accept from other party.
Oh well, I would always regret not getting the better one.
Last night I watched the video on how to use my pillows, and as a result changed to the large set, and adjusted it properly. My wife said to me: "Who told you you have a medium nose?" Anyway, I had my best night yet on the hose. I actually might have slept all night if not for losing my chinstrap twice.
