Soreness

Post by tye » Sun Feb 24, 2013 11:46 am

Hello all. Got my auto bipap Friday and the last 2 nights were much better now that my exhalation pressure has been reduced. I was just wondering if chest muscle soreness is common when starting therapy. My lungs don't hurt just the chest muscles. I've heard of people having soreness when starting just wondered how long it would last.
Have a great Sunday and look forward to posting again soon

Yes like leg muscles after climbing a mountain, however we always tell people to get chest pains checked out immediately . It is not a pain to be complacent about.

I had some soreness for a couple of days into therapy, but it was muscles in post-exercise recovery mode,
but, it may not be that in every case.

It not chest pain like a heart attack. It's just the muscles in the top of the chest like when you move your arms. Not short if breath or anything like that. I am breathing fine. Just sore like I slept wrong

The muscles you use to breathe have to work harder to exhale. Any time a muscle is used more then it is expected too, it will be sore for a few days.

Also now you have therapy you are sleeping without moving for HOURS at the time. Make sure you have good neck support and your body is not torqued. Put a pillow under your knee, if you sleep on your side, to keep your hips in line with your spine properly and not flopping over putting stress on your lower back.

I only have soreness around my nose from the pillows, not really rubbing but something nonetheless. Hard to describe but I am sure others have had it.

Find Lanisoh - in the baby section. It is lanolin based nipple cream for nursing mothers and won't destroy your mask and is safe enough to eat.

It is hard to describe but I know what you mean. Even if the mask is not too tight the nostril area gets a bit tender just from having something pressing on it even just a little. It's virgin territory if you think about it. Nothing has ever been up against it for any length of time.

Get the Lansinoh lanolin ointment that BlackSpinner suggested. It really does help. It's kind of expensive for such a little tube but sometimes the stores have a store brand that isn't quite so pricey but really it isn't a bad deal for the name brand because you use such a little amount it will last a long, long time.

One other idea...If you like the nasal pillow mask otherwise and plan to keep it then check out Padacheek.com (Karen a forum member is the Padacheek company) makes a really handy little comfort item that you probably will like. It's called a barrel cozy. I originally bought one 2 years ago this month to help with rain out issues (condensation in the nasal pillow from the moisture in my exhale breath) but when I put it on I told my self...oh, this feels so nice I am going to use it year round and I do. It feels like silk. Not that the silicone feels bad against the skin but the material she uses is so soft and comfy against the skin. I am still using that same barrel cozy. It looks like the devil after all this time and I have a spare but I just seem to have to get the last little bit of use out of things...tightwad that I am.
Here's the link.
