Which Bipap do I want?

Post by thegregster » Wed Feb 20, 2013 5:19 pm

My Resmed VPAP S Bipap's power button has been acting up and I can barely get it to turn on and off. Even though it's only 3 1/2 yrs old, looks like my HMO is choosing to replace it rather than repair it. Through Apria, which at least locally only deals Respironics blowers. My doctor won't go for Auto, just Bipap. And I want fully data capable machine. Which Respironics model would you suggest?

Thanks.

All the current model Respironics PRS1 BiPAP machines are fully data capable

All the current model ResMed S9 VPAP machines are fully data capable, too.

I would avoid any other manufacturers because of the better data collection and availability on PRS1 or S9 machines.

FYI, "BiPAP" and "VPAP" are trademarks for "bilevel."

If going with the straight Bilevel machine...like your VPAP S...either brand will work just fine.
The main difference between ResMed's VPAP and Respironics BiPap is in Auto adjusting mode with the variable pressure support.
The S9 VPAP S and the PR S1 BiPap Pro are both straight bilevel machines...no auto adjusting capabilities so there really isn't much difference....The BiPap will offer BiFlex exhale relief...the VPAP won't offer EPR because their PS is essentially EPR with a larger range.

I happen to own both brands in the bilevel machines (the PR S1 and S9 VPAP but mine are the Auto adjusting machines) and I have used both in straight bilevel mode...not enough difference in them to shake a stick at. Both are quite comfortable.
The S9 has a little noise at machine level on exhale...the PR S1 has a little noise at machine level on inhale. Neither loud enough to bother me.
But it's funny...my husband says he can't hear the BiPap at all...he says it is quieter than the VPAP.

Respironics no longer offers a BiPap that is not full data.
Respironics now has a heated hose BiPap...like the CLimateline heated hose on the S9.
