ramp funcion on Respironics REMstar Auto

Post by mcurley68 » Sun May 14, 2006 7:53 pm

I am using a REMstar Auto for 3 days now. This is working well but can anyone tell me how the Ramp Function works with the REMstar Auto? I thought I read here that there was no ramp with the Auto, but the menu includes the option, and has selections for 0, 2, 3, and 4 hours. What exactly happens with such a long ramp?

Mark,

The REMStar ramp feature works only with the machine set in CPAP mode (with or w/o C-flex), not in Auto mode.

In Auto mode, it starts out at your minimum pressure when you turn it on. No ramp. However, if you wake in the night and the pressure is too high for comfort, you can press the “ramp” button and it will immediately return to the minimum pressure you set.

CPAP ramp times are in terms of minutes, e.g. 5, 10, 20, not hours. Are you mistaking the C-flex exhale pressure relief setting options for ramp time settings?

I think what he is mentioning has to do with the "split night" therapy used in the APAP or AFLEX mode. You have the option to keep your minimum APAP pressure 2, 3, or 4 hours and then it goes to the Auto mode at least that is the way I understand it. The clinicians manual doesn't go into real depth about the split night stuff. I know in my instructions it mentions to set the ramp to 0 if your going to use the APAP or AFLEX modes if your not interested in the split night stuff.

mc,

The 2, 3 and 4-hour settings are for when you're doing split night therapy, and the machine has to be in either the APAP or AFLEX mode.

Well.... Ramp sort of works in Auto Mode.... If you press the ramp button after the pressure raises, it will return the pressure to the min set Rx.
